Resident Evil: Shane’s Story (Book 2) by TheOracleDragon

Two Months Later. May 7th, 2009

Two months since that day I died and was revived. Two months since I learned of my father’s death, so long has it been since those days and I still find myself grieving. So much has been left on my shoulders, his legacy so long to be carried on.

So many duties that I must do with my two partners, we are able to handle our own and with Black Queen aiding us, this world will know the burning hatred I have for those that killed him. They do not see how he was helping the world, but at the same time, I know what they are seeing... Murder.

But how can this be murder, when it’s a virus? I do not know what they think, I find myself wondering what’s real anymore.

My mind is still in chaos but there are times it is at peace, Black Queen helping me as is Sherry Birkin, Steve Burnside helps too, even if he’s a bit odd at times. I can’t understand his mumbling when he sleeps, but Black Queen told me not to worry like I normally would but I want everyone to be on their toes.

But I am impressed with Steve’s progress these past two months, not only is he stronger and quicker, but he is able to shift at will, turning into the beast he once was or bring forth his claws and spikes. Such a wonderful ability my mother created. I sometimes wish she was here with me like Albert, and such thinking makes my heart ache in great waves.

I loved my father even at the times we didn’t get along, I was weak then, if he saw me now, he would be proud. When I look toward the heavens I see him in my head looking at me with that smile of his and say ‘I’m proud of you son.’ God, I miss him so much…we were starting to be a family and now all this…It’s my duty to fulfill his orders and wishes, he was making this world for both of us, and now this prince needs to take the throne and be king.

But I can never replace my father.

If my plans work out, I will be able to kill Nikolai for what he has done to me, that bastard will pay dearly but why did he pick me? How did he know of my connection with Wesker when even the old man didn’t till a few years ago? How long was I monitored by that Russian? Why?

When I look back, I see that it was my father who saved me from those bloodhounds that have hunted me and Sofia for years. He saved me from drowning; I know it was him now. He took me away to the asylum to make me stronger and to keep me hidden from those goons, but why nine years? Nice fucking long years…I still hate that goddamn place but it was his and I honor it.

Plans are being made, things will get started shortly once we have collected enough data, but damn I’m starting to love it here but we will need to go to a new base and gather up men loyal to my banner that Albert has set for me.

Then I can finally be able to start my own legacy…

Chapter 1
Facility 12 - 12:30 PM - May 7th

The place was abandoned and sealed off by high wired fences that pulsed with high currents of electricity, along the fences was a yellow tape that read “DO NOT CROSS” in order to deter any would-be vandals. Guards and BSAA Humvees were stationed to patrol the perimeter in which shifts changed after five hours, keeping trespassers away. The facility was still being cleaned out of all containers of biological components, BSAA recently discovered a hidden chamber loaded with chemicals and large containers of various plants that they knew were used for the Uroboros project; which was all hidden underground.

The day was normal, the previous shift heading toward the shanty town a few miles down the road, BSAA having established headquarters in the musty slums allowing easy access to the river to ship supplies and the removed compounds for disposing instead of having to use transport trucks for as of late they have been having issues with local militia, so far they had little to no reports on the river, but little did they know they crossed paths with Shane Wesker. At these given moments, he would strike stealing back what they stole, but so far he has only done this twice thanks to Babu’s aid in informing him of Uroboros shipments and with Black Queen’s assistance and Steve’s knack of being able to act like a boater, these moments allowed Shane to exchange the real samples with those of duds. Containers filled with water.

At the facility in the distance Shane observed carefully keeping his imposing figure hidden, he wore an S.T.A.R.S. style black vest, two thick handles of two kukri knives showed rising from his back in an X pattern while dog tags hung from his neck; slowly he took them into a black fingerless glove hand rubbing the name ’Albert Wesker’ on them for they were once Wesker‘s S.T.A.R.S. dog tags. His sunglasses that Wesker had crafted for him were European design and sleek as they wrapped around his entire eye socket allowing no access to lights or prying eyes wanting to see his new eyes. The sunglasses were custom made with gold mirrored lenses, much like the visors astronaut helmets had to protect humans from the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Slowly he placed the dog tags within his vest patting gently before his hands rested on his black jeans brushing against the leg holsters on both legs which both held .45 Beretta pistols, a tribute to a man named Kevin Ryman. A light smile crossed Shane’s face as he looked at his watch, shifting slightly on his feet as his black leather boots seemed to beg him to show how sleek they were when he would run while they were tight on his legs thanks to the straps of two serrated bowie knives on them both of which were made for perfect throwing. Thanks to Craig’s training, Shane was able to hit his targets with ease unlike before when he couldn’t.

Soon his hands rested on his belt, the large silver buckle was of a Western design with a star in the middle of it before a sigh escaped his lips, he had been waiting in this position for the last twenty minutes for Steve and Sherry to come, they were needed to act out their roles of vendors course he couldn’t help but chuckle at how ridiculous they were going to look.

Slowly he inhaled the warm air the shade of the tree provided unlike that of the hot air around it, it hadn’t rained in weeks drying up most of the land once again as wildfires started to burn about the land. Perfect timing for him to fully get rid of this place, even though he knew they had been working on it for two months but the upside was that it was going to stop them from collecting anything else hidden within the place.

But his thoughts were interrupted as he moved more behind the senescent tree watching as a baying mangy donkey came into view pulling a rickety cart loaded with glass bottles that’s contents were of water, the left back wheel squeaking as the donkey pulled it along with two people following behind it.

He whispered “About time.” and watching the cloaked figures moving up the dusty and dead road before smiling and continued to whisper, “Time to move.” As he proceeded to move along the dry grass hearing it crunching under his boots, he was going watch the plan unfold; the first few guards at first gate approached the vendors and aimed their weapons just as the Humvee vanished around the far left corner of the compound.

Shane nodded watching carefully with his gold and crimson eyes that were hidden behind his sunglasses before whispering “Get ready…” seeing the two figures stopping raising their hands slightly drawing the guards over to them and their wagon. Shane whispered, “Now.” And took off in a quick black blur heading toward the gate, slipping past the distracted guards by sliding under the gate before leaping strongly to his left hiding behind the wall taking a few deep slow breaths listening to the guards questioning the vendors beyond all reason, it was the distraction he needed to be in this place.

It had been two months since he was last here, he could see how much the BSAA had ruined his old home, so many memories where here and now they were erased away like the tracks on the dusty ground, leaving nothing behind when the wind blows through. His heart ached to see this place in ruins, the once fine soil was torn about from the constant moving of vehicles to and from this place; it wasn’t like that of what Shane remembered. Many of the old trees he once took time to relax in were gone, cut out for the transport trucks which made him enraged. The BSAA were ruining more and more of his memories, first Wesker and now his old home.

Facility 12 was making things hard on his mind, so much was being taken away but he was going to stand tall and take it all in. The guard’s voices yanked him from his thoughts, forcing him to come back to the present and look at the compound carefully seeing the agents moving around with their inner patrols and those taking care of hauling things from the buildings. With great speed, Shane darted like a black mist toward a parked Humvee and crouched down instantly seeing two guards standing in front of it unaware of the threat behind them. With Black Queen continuing his training due to Wesker’s death, Shane had become a deadly weapon, one of Wesker’s dreams for him, but Shane still had a hard time killing.

Instead of killing the guards as he should do, Shane moved up behind them and smacked their heads together making a clacking sound before letting go and moved his hands swiftly grabbing their belts and yanked them behind him with simple ease as they fell to the ground like rag dolls, discarded by their owners.

A small green dot flickered to life on Shane‘s cell phone before his earpiece clicked followed by, “How are things going Shane?” Shane ignored Steve Burnside and ducked down beside the Humvee observing the inner patrol at the door leading into the main building. Again Steve interrupted Shane’s train of thought with, “Hey, when are you going to let me tag along? I want to show how badass I am.” Shane focused his attention on the door before standing up slowly tensing his body, he needed to be quick since the patrol was tight and well trained. Steve asked impatiently, “Shane? Hey, you still there?”

Shane took a breath counting carefully before darting forward vanishing when the men looked in the direction he was coming from before appearing in front of them smacking two together before kicking the third hard across the chest while the fourth tried to get on the radio but failed to do so when a sharp kukri blade sliced the radio off the man’s uniform while at the same given moment gasped for breath when Shane grabbed his neck getting a perfect view of Shane’s face in which Shane saw pure terror spread like a ripple effect across the man’s face and he knew why too.

The only thing Shane could say to the man was, “My father says hello.” before forcing the man into unconsciousness and discarding him behind a mass of dry grass, Shane looked toward the door remembering many times of coming out through that very entrance and now it was marked with a BSAA sticker and posting. Bitterness welled up inside him, so much of this was going to be taken out on those agents soon enough and he proceeded inside with hate not wanting to stick around any longer in the blazing sunlight.

When the door closed behind him, Shane took a deep breath and scanned the hallway carefully and intently before walking forward listening to every single sound he could find; voices, radio chatter, the air conditioning, footsteps and that of his own. Sheathing his kukri back onto his back, Shane moved quickly keeping as silent as possible, this mission wasn’t about killing the agents of the BSAA, but to get rid of what was left within the place. Black Queen had informed him about the BSAA uncovering the sublevels of the compound and they were extracting samples and B.O.W.S this was not something he was going to let them get away with, not after what Wesker wanted.

Peering down a joining hallway, he was able to see some men getting into plastic and rubber Hazmat suits making him evermore curious where this elevator or stairs were at. With ease, he pressed himself against the wall listening soon tapping his phone while saying, “Black Queen, give me directions to the elevator.” before checking the hallway while making a fist. “They will pay dearly...” He whispered before waiting for a reply from the Black Queen.

Black Queen spoke, “That corridor leads down to it, get past those agents and proceeded forward.” as Shane looked down the hallway again and back down his own hall. “There are no patrols in that general area Shane, be with haste, two of them have radios.” And she need not say anymore as Shane soon darted down the hallway startling two of the five men that were there, teeth clenched Shane fought the urges to kill them as he bashed them about quickly, taking the two with the radios out first while proceeding with the onslaught with the other three. This small battle lasted a few seconds as Shane took a few slow and deep breaths calming himself down as his eyes glowed faintly showing he was getting excited.

There was at times Steve and Sherry would joke at him about when he got excited, always his eyes would glow until they were fully ablaze like that of a demon. Then Shane would tell them about Wesker’s and how he enjoyed his new eyes, even though at times he felt in awe that he had his father’s eyes.

But now was not the time to be thinking of this, Shane knew that and discarded it back to the pile within his mind; not before he leaned against the wall having Black Queen say, “Do you need medical assistance.” which made him shake his head no, knowing she was watching him through the security cameras. There were at times his emotional state would get to him, these times were hard on him and Black Queen could only do so little for him whereas Sherry made him feel better since she was always comforting, unlike Steve who would constantly joke and annoy the hell out of him.

Ever since he woke up from his deathly slumber, never once did he feel any negative effects of the virus inside him, unlike Wesker who had to take shots, with Shane, there was nothing but power. This often left him wondering if it was changed and manipulated or his body changed it, hell, maybe even that hybrid plaga that was once inside him possibly changed the virus considering how long he was asleep. But whatever the case was, his new gifts still were hard for him to get used to but Black Queen was helping him adapt through training set up by Wesker himself, even the old man needed to be on his toes.

Shaking his head free of thinking, Shane momentarily glanced at the humans on the floor before moving down the hallway following Black Queen’s instructions to the letter; edginess was still there in Shane’s body, whatever was causing it was going to be revealed as he soon found the elevator. It was the elevator, the one thing he hated the most and Wesker knew that since that one day at the asylum.

Curses slipped through Shane’s mind as he licked his lips nervously hearing Black Queen ask, “Is something wrong Shane?” but he wasn’t going to answer it, no he wasn’t. Hands were shaking now as he entered pressing the down button as soon as he turned around and after that, he gripped the railing watching the doors close and more so when he felt the elevator move. His eyes were shut tightly as his heart raced feeling the elevator still moving downward which slipped a drop of panic into his body making him wonder more and more how far down the shaft was, would he be able to escape if the cables broke? So many questions soared through his mind that he failed to pay attention when the doors opened before him.

A soft voice spoke softly, “Shane, sweetie, is something wrong?” which drew him out of his panic and back into reality as his eyes opened. “Shane?” the voice asked again which made him smile slightly before tapping his earpiece.

Shane took a deep breath and whispered, “I’m fine Sherry, thanks for being concerned.” And he then proceeded forward. “I’ll be out shortly once I get the bomb activated and…” His voice soon trailed off as he saw two bodies of BSAA agents on the floor covered in blood and black ooze making him look around instantly before kneeling down studying the wounds. “Fuck…” was the only word Shane could manage before hearing gunfire from the chamber before him followed by screams.

Suddenly from speakers hidden in the ceiling all around him, a robotic female voice started speaking over a sudden blaring alarm, “Warning! Biohazard detected. All personnel and guards are to evacuate Level B7! Warning! Biohazard detected. All personnel and guards are to evacuate Level B7.” Suddenly a man’s voice crackled over the PA system, “Containment teams report to level B7 immediately! This is not a drill; I repeat this is not a drill! All other personnel must evacuate the facility and remain at your designated emergency posts immediately. Once again this is not a drill!”

The recording kept playing its warning as the man’s voice drowned it out over the PA system repeating his orders to the personnel in the facility. Shane raised a puzzled brow and waited for the Black Queen to respond but she was silent. Shane knew that if alarms were going off like this something bad must be happening in this lab. As he moved forward he couldn’t help wonder what the hell could be going on in this laboratory to cause this much chaos.

Chapter 2

A loud voice shouted, “Move! Move!” forcing Shane to hide behind a large metal crate ignoring the TriCell emblem on the side of it as he watched three men running for their lives toward the elevator and he clearly saw one was wounded badly having one member run back to help him inside moments before the doors closed allowing Shane to take a breath of peace knowing he did not have to engage those men. Rising slowly he moved around the crate still puzzled as to what was loose inside this lab but he wasn’t going to pay attention to it as he drew one of his .45s and readied it as he moved slowly checking the doors and peering through the windows into the operations rooms and experimental rooms to only shake his head in disbelief he did not know this was here.

All of this was going on while he lived here two months ago, but not knowing made him a bit edgy as he wondered if Wesker experimented on him as he slept or when they put him to sleep at those times. Slowly he rubbed his throat remembering those few times when Wesker had him in the headlock, forcing the blood and air to be cut off which made him black out. God, how many times Wesker did that to him, the one he hated the most was the day he stole the dirt bike. Once again his thoughts were jolted from him as he aimed his gun before him seeing a BSAA agent in full Hazmat attire fumbling from one of the corners, his yellow suit was ripped, black ooze and slime dripped off him as did the pure red lifeblood. Whatever was down here showed no mercy as Shane watched him collapse to the floor dead but his body convulsed having him shake his head and move forward in full caution.

Poking the man with his foot keeping his .45 aimed at the man’s back, Shane received no response at first until he saw the ooze inside the suit was still moving around, like gelatinous snakes. He trained his gun on the ooze covered man as he sprinted past him before the black goo decided it wanted a piece of him.

But he had to tell himself to keep on edge, this was from a B.O.W. and he was positive it wasn’t far off. When gunfire erupted just down the hallway where this man came from, Shane was startled only for a fragment as he rose drawing the same .45 out and moved. Screams and more gunshots quickened his pace down the once white corridor. He had little time to read the signs but he realized finally where he was and what might actually be down here. When he got to the room with the sign Containment Room in red and black lettering above the door Shane slowed down and stopped in front of the door.

The door was electronic and there was a glass window next to the door, without the proper keycard Shane was only able to peek inside. His eyes darted about the room seeing three agents already slain before seeing the fourth reloading his assault rifle, there was little Shane could do to help as he watched the man get grabbed by something long and black, slithering like worms as it hurled the human against the glass causing a loud thump to echo in the hallway and in Shane’s mind. Gazing around the corner of the thick glass, he was only able to catch the arm dragging the dying human out of view, whatever it was, it was big.

Checking the card reader, Shane growled seeing he needed a Level 2 access card, which he did not have on his person making him curse lowly as he said “Black Queen, I need to find a key card, any idea of where to look?” but when there was no response after a few seconds, Shane was angry and pulled out his cell phone noticing there was nothing, no service, no contact. He was practically cut off and in another tomb, five hundred feet underground.

A hard sigh escaped him as he kicked the wall denting it which drew his full attention to two things: His foot and the door. But another thought passed his mind, him unable to kick the door open which would result in it jamming when he did find the card. A low curse left Shane’s throat skipping across his lips, “Shitty fuck.” as he pulled out his cell phone once again trying to bring up a map of this laboratory only to have nothing in his files, he growled this time at how Black Queen sent him down here blind but he had to consider that he did not notice any cameras so that would be an answer to part of the question. He knew now he needed to find a map and some key card to the Containment Room, which was where he needed to go since that was where he saw the creature that needed to be terminated plus with his searching, he would need to find the control room to access the bomb.

Holstering his .45 once again Shane moved forward eyeing his surroundings, most of the doors he had seen were sealed shut to prevent the spreading of the contamination, there was one room he managed to snag a first aid spray which stirred his thoughts of Kristoff and Stan from Raccoon City. So many times he dreamed about that day after the attack with that Hunter, he often wondered if the two men were still alive and if so, would they recognize him?

Clearing his thoughts once again with his objective, he forced himself to search harder till he found one of the security checkpoints around the next corner and smiled in bliss seeing a computer with a map of this laboratory. The old leather chair squeaked as he took a seat upon it and chuckled lightly thinking of Wesker sitting on a chair like this and barking out orders like a true boss man. Moving closer to the panels and buttons, his eyes scanned the labeling finding one he needed to find and pressed it as his attention turned to a monitor.

The live feed showed a few BSAA agents trying to get out of a locked room, another showed bodies, empty halls, and dead bodies, only one time did he catch sight of the creature that writhed like worms trying to escape a bait can but it was only half there making him curse lowly once again as the feed soon cut out having him say “Damn.” before shaking his head. He returned to the computer finding a USB port, smiling he connected his phone to it allowing him easy access into the place and the computers.

Watching the screen light up with a DOWNLOADING icon blinking a sigh left his lips and his eyes closed. He wasn’t worried about whatever was loose down here, hell; he didn’t feel the need to flee like the agents. Whatever it was, Shane knew he would be able to handle it with ease but he was still getting used to his new strengths and abilities, but that was stopped when the download was complete as a single beep was emitted from it.

Taking the phone back he scanned through the files and data, Uroboros testing and storage was down here according to one file and at the bottom, a smile appeared on Shane’s face seeing Wesker’s signature on the bottom of the document. Another memento of the old man that he would cherish, a heavy sigh escaped him as he lowered the phone and his head. His body heaved as he spoke in a raspy whisper “I miss you so much Dad.” before pulling his sunglasses off to wipe his eyes free of tears but he couldn’t stop himself as a few fell to the floor and he cursed lowly at his weakness and that of Chris Redfield.

Shane needed to calm down and tried calling Sherry but the signal was cut due to how far underground he was having him say “Damn, I better hope those two will be alright without contact with me.” as he soon wiped his face and continued “Black Queen better be right about this bomb location.” in a whisper slipping his sunglasses back on as he stood up checking the map as it showed which doors were locked. His fingers glided over the map and lightly tapped the largest section on it as it started to blink, that was the location he needed to go to.

Checking the area he was in again, he found an access card, Level 3. It wasn’t Level 2 but he knew he would eventually find that card and gain access to the other rooms but he wondered now about that large room, according to the mapping scale it was fairly large and possibly contained many items but he would find out once he reached there. Moving again from his position, Shane took caution with every step he took drawing one of his .45s again, he couldn’t help his feelings, his senses were going nuts with him, there was danger somewhere close to his position now and he made haste with his walking toward every door he saw, a few were locked while others were jammed shut making him growl not able to access them without drawing attention to himself when he was in a position he didn’t want.

The man over the PA kept barking out orders and the current condition the labs were in, course the more Shane looked around the more he grew closer to where that man was. When he swiped the Level 3 card into another slot he entered aiming his .45 at an agent standing in the far corner aiming the assault rifle at him, the man was scared shitless and opened fire as Shane dodged to his right as the bullets hit the wall outside of the room forcing him to fire at the man nailing him in the shoulders after firing two shots, it was just enough to disable the agent into dropping his rifle which allowed Shane time to walk over and hit the man across the face hard knocking him out cold before shaking his head and saying “Dumb ass.”

Shane looked about the room and soon shook that search off and checked the man out finding the Level 2 access card making him smile and chuckle “Thank you.” as he picked the man and darted back to the elevator dropping the agent off at the doors before sighing “I’m not going to kill you or let you get killed, after all..” he whispers crouching down while continuing “…even I have to say hello to the world.” he smiled patting the agent on the head before hurrying off to unlock the other doors to searching for the Level 1 access card.

What seemed to amuse him, besides the fact that everyone in here was being hunted by a monster, was the fact there were a few puzzles for him to solve: finding the access code in scattered documents, sorting a puzzle on a keypad. Whoever made these puzzles really enjoyed it since it made Shane had to double around locations just to find the answers and clues. By the time he reached the large room, he sighed listening to the stillness of the place before leaning against the cold white metal door as his eyes scanned the area.

Shane hadn’t heard a single sound in ten minutes and he was behind on his mission, the damn puzzles and key cards were delaying him and he knew those outside he had knocked out would surely have been found or awakened by now which agitated him to no end. Shaking his head he swiped the key card and watched the door open but he paused seeing large thick black cables on the floor and when he entered he stood in uncertainty gazing at six long rows of large glass test tubes housing large blobs of flesh melded with clear plastic tubing and wires.

Whatever was going on down here really disturbed him as he moved slowly never noticing the large black blob in the far left corner, his attention was focused on the glass tubes before catching sight of the master computer making him moved toward it quickly while watching where he stepped so to not trip over any of the black wires that intertwined together like snakes.

Reaching the control panels and computer, he scanned the images and paused as is asked for a username and password, he never knew what they were and shook his head before saying “Shit.” as he pulled out his phone hooking it up before looking over his right shoulder quickly believing he had heard something but his eyes detected no movement and he went back to work allowing Black Queen to access the computer for him but his attention was once again turned to that of behind him making his senses flare as he drew one of his .45s aiming down the walkway between the glass tubes and proceeded forward checking left and right till he stood in the middle of them not seeing anything.

Shane sighed in relief as he whispered “Just my nerves.” a second before something dropped onto his gun drawing his attention instantly to the black writhing wormlike thing making him shake it off quickly as he stomped down onto it only to freeze and look up slowly at the ceiling seeing a large black slimy and writhing creature making him rush forward just before it fell right where he once stood and he knew instantly what it was. “Uroboros.”

This is what the agents were screaming and firing at, this was the thing the warning system announced and now it was before him, separating him from the control panel. His eyes were locked on it while his legs forced his body to back up; his ears picked a familiar ding of his phone telling him he now had access. Taking a brisk breath into his lungs, his heart quickened in pace as he bolted to his right going around the units and toward the panel as Uroboros began to turn around, when Shane noticed he felt panic slipping into his mind but he kept his cool working as fast as he could to arm the bomb before feeling something wrap around his legs and jerk him hard causing his chin to smack off the control panel and then onto the hard metal floor which resulted in flashes of white light to occur in his mind. Regaining his awareness quickly he drew his .45 opening fire blindly behind himself hitting Uroboros making it let him go just long enough he hit enter and grabbed his phone.

He smiled hearing “The self-destruction sequence has been activated, all personnel evacuate immediately.” just moments before Uroboros smashed the control panel forcing Shane to jump backwards and aim his gun hearing the machine voice repeating the warning loudly before announcing “Five minutes to self-detonation.” which made him smile before bolting toward the door knowing he would be out of there before it would explode, erasing everything that was down here but he cursed lowly seeing the last few remaining alive BSAA agents fleeing toward the elevator dragging their unconscious ally into it and proceeded upward leaving him in the pit with Uroboros.

Turning around quickly he drew his second .45 and aimed it as his eyes scanned the area carefully not seeing a single sign of the monster but he knew it was still there coming to find him while consuming anyone that was dead. His eyes caught a glimmer on the floor a few feet from him, an incendiary grenade was left on the floor from the agents and he snatched it up before seeing the writhing wormlike appendages on the floor and soon more appeared as Uroboros formed before him having him cuss like mad as he knew he was running out of time, kicking back lightly he pressed the down button calling the elevator back down as he faced off with Uroboros once again knowing he wouldn’t be able to do this alone but he was a Wesker, and he was not backing down.

Chapter 3

A young blonde haired woman sat on the end of the wagon watching the facility, her hair was done up making her hair that was long look short on her head, a red vest was over her white t-shirt for upon the back was an angel with burning wings with ‘Let Me Live’ above it; for this was the vest Claire Redfield once wore. Her black jeans blended well with her black boots before a groan escaped her lips followed by “He should have been out here by now Steve.” before looking at the tall red hair next to her standing under the tree they were taking shelter from the sweltering sun.

Steve nodded in agreement while brushing his jean vest free of dirt soon flicking a bug off his gray t-shirt before giving off a rude huff as he said “I bet he’s taking his time killing them in there, I mean come on, why can’t I have some of the action?” he asked before tapping his black army boots against the cart breaking free dry caked on mud before groaning seeing some of the mud was tried on the bottom of his dark blue jeans. He mumbled, “Just perfect.” moments after hearing Humvees blazing up and down the road evacuating personnel and equipment as he scoffed “That didn’t work out well did it?” just as he was smacked hard on the face replying “Ow! Sherry, what was that for?”

Sherry did not take it lightly when Steve would insult Shane, no; she hated when he did and glared at him for a while until her arms crossed. “I’m telling you now Steve, you better not be so rude about him when I’m around, I trust him fully and I would do anything he tells me. You need to learn to listen.” She told getting off the wagon poking Steve in the gut while adding “Or Shane will make sure you are locked up in that room again.” which made the tall man tense and nodded before looking at the facility waiting patiently as Sherry tended to the donkey, petting the tired animal gently as it nuzzled her. “So sweet, we’ll find you a good home.”

-Inside Facility 12 Hidden Labs-

Shane cursed as he dodged the Uroboros’ one attack and kept firing at it in hopes it would fall over to give him time to check on the elevator. The damn monster forced him to retreat away from the elevator and he had moments, a hand full of seconds before the place was going to explode. He hated this greatly and growled as his eyes glowed in the single fluent motion; holstering the smoking .45s while arming the incendiary grenade as he rushed forward slamming it inside Uroboros before quick timing it to the side and around shaking the wormlike appendages off his hand and body as his eyes locked onto the elevator. He could hear the monster wailing from the flames and then the death call “50 seconds to detonation.” as his heart thundered, he was pushing himself hard and cursed greatly getting into the elevator knowing it was folly to wait for it to rise and broke through the ceiling of it and made his ascent up the shaft, climbing and jumping, pushing his new abilities to the max hearing the machine counting down.

The elevator doors were pulled open hard as Shane panted running again as his body ached hearing “10 seconds.” he had to keep running, he had to. The exit was before him when he heard the timer hit zero followed by a loud rumbling and screeching sound as he rammed the door off the hinges fumbling out across the ground hard just as fire erupted like a volcano from the gaping entrance. Holding himself Shane limped and tried to run as the ground under him shook making him tumble but he knew he needed to get out of the facility before the ground collapsed but he had done too much, his body was tired making him crawl before seeing Steve rushing overdoing his best to keep balance before grabbing Shane. With ease, the older man had lifted Shane onto his shoulder carrying him like a firefighter would while heading toward the gate where Sherry was waiting with the wagon.

She called out to them, “Hurry!” as the donkey bayed in excitement while slapping its hooves off the ground. The frightened animal was in a panic and ready to run when told to. Steve huffed and chuckled as he laid Shane down on the wagon and they all were off from the site just as it collapsed upon itself, taking away the memories, taking away everything Shane held for that place. Watching the flames and dust rising into the air, Shane felt sick and laid his head back down before coughing. His body ached and he was sore, knowing Sherry, he was going to get a worried lecture which always made him smile since she was so worried for him. Steve, course, would be teasing him and rubbing it in his face that he should have had him come along, but the answer was always the same three words: Maybe next time.
May 9th, 7:30 PM

It had been two days since I blew Facility 12 up, taking away my memories of that place and destroying what was left behind, I know that those few men that saw me would have by now reported this to BSAA HQ, wherever the hell that main station is.

It will be a matter of time till they figure out who I am, course, this excites me since this will stir Chris Redfield into the mix, won’t he be surprised to hear that a Wesker is still kicking. I think he would mistake me as the old man, but once he realizes it, that will be his downfall.

Right now, all I can do is rest and wait, I used myself too much at the facility and Sherry has been tending me like a worried mother, I enjoy it greatly since it aids me mentally. Steve has been keeping patrol down near the river for any stray boaters but so far nothing.

Not long ago Black Queen has told us about going to Canada and Germany, this will help us greatly in finding a better location and gain more followers. There are still a good few doctors, researchers and scientists out there working for us, my father ensured that his research would continue, and that of Umbrella’s apparently since he detailed of others.

Whatever the case is, I have to get to Canada, Sherry and Steve will be going to Germany once Black Queen has set up things but I have a feeling something was going to happen…

Shane sighed closing the leather journal before slipping the brown elastic band over the cover keeping it closed as he tossed it to his green and black backpack; he had been keeping a journal since he woke up. Black Queen had suggested it to him since it would help his mental state and would show improvement for him but now and then it didn’t help him. He couldn’t stop thinking of the old man and groaned as he lay back down on the bed shaking his head before looking at the bubble in the one corner, Black Queen was always watching and it made him feel good knowing he had someone and thought of her as a mother figure.

Slowly he yawned and stretched removing his sunglasses as he placed them on the nightstand next to his bed, he had changed earlier when dinner was done, and he wore simple black shorts and nothing else. Rubbing his eyes Shane asked “Are the movers coming soon?” to Black Queen before fixing his eyes on the bubble waiting for her reply.

There was a pause before she spoke, “Yes, they’ll be arriving tomorrow around noon. They will transfer all items you need to the new libratory in Germany. The place has been abandoned since Umbrella fell but it will be a good place for the three of you to live, I have already made preparations for your new home.”

Hearing that made a smile cross Shane’s face, at the same time he was a bit nervous considering he never flew before unless he counted that one time in which he was out cold when Wesker brought him here. Black Queen was reading his face and body gestures with ease and spoke softly “Shane, don’t be scared, you’ll be fine. I have the best pilot at your disposal, do not worry my dear. I’m always here to help.” She told as Shane smiled more and nodded to her as he yawned and grinned as Sherry came in wearing light blue pajamas and a blue t-shirt, she looked a bit scared but said nothing as she joined Shane on his bed nuzzling up against him.

Shane smiled and asked “Another bad dream?” and was returned with a few simple head nods, he sighed and hugged her close whispering “You’re safe with me Sherry, you know that.” before kissing her head while hugging her close feeling her holding onto him like no tomorrow. He asked “Was it your father again that scared you?” and once again another nod came as the answer making him continue saying “You’re safe with me Sherry, always.”

That night, 1:30 A.M.

Sherry woke up slowly feeling the bed moving, she knew then Shane was awake hearing him trying to weep silently. Slowly she took a breath and rolled onto her back before sitting up seeing he was already sitting on the edge of the bed, the dim light shimmered in the tears on his cheeks, his body shaking as he cried. Slowly she moved to him, holding him gently as he flinched, she remembered when he told her how violent he could get if she surprised him in a manner of sudden hugging. She was careful this time and kissed his neck setting her head on his shoulder pressing her body against his feeling his every movement as he held her arms in his hands and continued to cry.

Shane was depressed but he did his best to fight it off. Still every now and then his feelings got the better of him and he would sit up at night and silently weep. Sherry knew what Excella did to him, but still who could blame him for missing her or Albert? They were the closest thing he had to a family of sorts in years until they too were ripped away from him by fate.

Hugging Shane again Sherry spoke softly, “You okay Shane?” She nuzzled his neck feeling the tension in his body start to relax before he hugged her arms.

Shane sniffed and sighed, “A little…I miss him Sherry…” he held her close to him. Sherry tried her best to keep him calm and loved but he still had moments like this, especially at night when he was alone with his thoughts. “For the first time in my life, I felt so safe. He was my father, the man I’ve wanted to know for years and he was taken from me by the BSAA.” He said trying to keep his tears back but she felt a drop hit her arm. “I never told him how much I cared for him and how thankful I was for everything he did…”

Sherry frowned; she knew how he felt since her father died in Raccoon City, the monster that hunted her cause she was his daughter, a breeder. But it was the monster, not her father that was hounding her but she still loved him so she whispered “It’s okay Shane, he’s still here with us, we just can’t see him.” before kissing his neck again as he started to cry. “Come on now, you need to be stronger.”

“It’s hard.” He said trying harder to keep his voice from cracking. “What I’ve gone through…there is just no end to this pain.” He said as Sherry made him look at her with those gold and crimson eyes of his, given to him by Wesker, by his father.

A smile crossed Sherry’s face as she stared into his eyes, locking her blue eyes with his own, keeping him looking into those ocean pools of hers while saying “Listen to me, I’m here for you, no matter what happens I will always love you and will never leave your side.” and soon Shane looked away before looking back at her as she continued “Shane, you’re my husband, I have full faith in you as you do of me, and you know that I will do all I can to help you get through this, even to the end.” She said as he smiled lightly and she hugged him firmly as he did in return.

“Thank you.” He whispered holding her close wishing that they would never be apart and would have a long-lasting courtship and even a family, but the cards were laid, and he then pulled one that would change his life.

Meanwhile in another 'abandoned' Umbrella base

The control room to the facility had fifteen men decked in black and green military intelligence uniforms. On each soldier’s shoulder, they wore a patch with a black and white Umbrella Inc logo inside a red five-point star. Besides that, the men wore no other marking on their uniforms.

Nikolai Ginovaef was in the middle of the room and paced behind the men at their workstations scanning each monitor he saw with cool detachment. He kept his arms folded behind his back as his boots clacked against the concrete floor while he kept a slow, steady pace around the room. Nikolai was known for his patience and methodical nature and his men were trained to be like him. Nikolai knew Shane was still out there and had to be close to the facility. The boy showed promise as far as raw power went but he was still headstrong and reckless. Nikolai knew that all he need do now is wait, and eventually Shane would slip up and fall into his hands.

Nikolai knew Shane’s loyalty to his father would be his undoing. The boy was sticking around to clean up the mess that Albert Wesker left behind. When Nikolai saw the live footage from the satellites a few days ago, he knew it was only a matter of time before they would have him.

Still, had he been able to put a tracking device inside the boy when they were operating on him at the asylum things would have been much easier. But because of all the tests he knew Wesker would subject Shane too, Nikolai knew any device would eventually be found and possibly lead to the detection of the mutant plaga inside the boy. Besides, he had not planned on having the boy survive the plaga infection since he would undoubtedly be killed at some point during his murder spree on the base so it seemed doubly pointless to waste a tracking device on him.

Nikolai sighed as he paced. He knew from his experiences in Raccoon City that no matter how great his planning may be there would always be a risk something would be overlooked or an outside factor could throw his plans off their timetable. Still, he felt a small twinge of excitement whenever this happened and he enjoyed the challenge of solving whatever problem was thrown at him.

The challenge of finding Shane and keeping track of him would be enjoyable. Nikolai’s men had been ready for two months now, ready to deploy, ready for combat and ready to kill at a moments notice. These were Nikolai’s elite and if he felt a certain amount of pride in them unlike the criminal scum, thugs and mercenaries he had comanded as an Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service commander. All of them were nothing but scum in his eye, barely worthy of his contempt. Is it any wonder he felt nothing for the UBCS when they died in droves in Raccoon City?

But these men, his men that he hand-picked himself for this team were different. They were intelligent, honorable and most of all loyal to Nikolai. Slowly his gaze shifted to his second-in-command Gennedy Shatalov who was looking at a monitor while speaking to an operator.

Gennedy was younger than Nikolai by a few years but he had the tactical mind of a man twice his age. An ex Spetsnaz and expert knife fighter Gennedy was a fierce opponent in armed and unarmed combat. Nikolai still remembered how Gennedy rose out of the ranks of his small organization and proved his loyalty to Nikolai many times since then including a particularly nasty incident at an Umbrella compound in Greenland which left Gennedy with a crescent scar along the left side of his face.

Gennady ran a hand through his brown crew cut hair while tapping his boot on the floor, his green eyes darting about the images on the monitor as he was aiding in the search for the boy. Gripping the chair firmly with his other hand, his muscles tightened as he leaned forward slightly. Touching the screen, the view of the jungle zoomed in on the river with a single boat moving down it.

Leaning back Gennedy fixed his black and white striped shirt before nervously rubbing his chin. Standing up, Gennedy walked purposefully towards Nikolai and spoke in a thick Russian accent, “Colonel. I believe we should be monitoring the river. It seems to me that the only way to get that deep into the jungle is by boat. If we monitor the boat traffic, which is minimal, we might find our target.”

Nikolai pondered on this for a moment. The BSAA had a few reports of strange activity on the river but nothing conclusive had ever been found. The dense jungle surrounding it would be the perfect spot to hide something and Nikolai wouldn’t put it past Umbrella or Wesker to have some secret facility or base hidden there.

Nikolai nodded in agreement and Gennedy stood at ease in front of his commander. Nikolai turned around to the others and spoke loudly pointing to the large screen on the wall of the monitor room where the map of the jungle and the river was visible, “Our target area is the main river flowing through the jungle here. I want the river monitored at all times and report any and all traffic moving in and out of the jungle on it cataloged and studied.”

The men spoke in unison, “Sir yes Sir!” and they began working at their workstations intensely.

Nikolai turned back to Gennedy and coolly said, “Commander, it’s time to start phase two.” Gennady smirked and nodded as he and Nikolai turned and left the monitor room.

After taking the elevator down to the subbasement Nikolai and Gennedy walked down a long steel corridor hallway to a pressure sealed door. Nikolai punched in a code and slid a red and black card through a digital reader. The panel beeped as the hiss of hydraulics unlatched and opened the door.

Inside the room was a single large steel capsule connected to banks of monitoring devices, wires and tubes. Gennedy walked towards the steel cylinder and stood before the computer console next to it as Nikolai stood with his hands clasped behind his back looking at the glass window in the front of the pod. The black short cropped hair on the BOW’s head seemed to dance inside the bubbling liquid of the pod. Nikolai asked, “Is Afanasii ready?”

Gennady typed in a few commands and lines of data began pouring across the small screen followed by a small ding noise. Gennedy quickly read the data on the screen and then turned and simply nodded to Nikolai that Afanasii was in perfect working order.

Nikolai nodded with a tight serious smile, “Good. Once we can confirm the target’s location I want Afanasii and her “minions” dispatched immediately. We’re going to give Shane a hard lesson in siege warfare.”

Chapter 4

Following day…

The night had been rough. Shane was tired and still sore but was recovering thanks to his new gift and Sherry’s love. Her constant attention made him happy knowing that someone loved him.

Today the movers were coming, which allowed Shane and Steve a chance to go back up the river to the town and grab a few things. While there they would also be spying on the BSAA outpost to gather what they could from it. Sherry wasn’t happy about this but had to let them go since she had to make sure things were packed up quickly.

Sherry felt excited and anxious about going to a new location but she was happy they were getting a new home. Sherry had picked up a magazine about houses and their designs. If everything worked out, she was going to have Shane buy them a home in the woods with plenty of space and privacy so they could raise their family in peace. She was so obsessed with the idea that she had started sketching a dream home based on different houses she had seen in the magazine and online. Sherry smiled looking at the sketches before tracing her finger over her and Shane’s names at the top of the one, before putting it away.

At the small harbor at the bottom of the hill, Shane couldn’t help looking up the stairs and think of that day he walked up them for the first time, without even thinking it his left hand drifted to his chest to the place where a scar should have been, the place where Wesker’s fist had punched through and killed him. The tinge of pain was still there when he thought of it which made him close his eyes for a second. When he opened them he looked down at Steve who was looking at him funny. Shane smiled and patted him on the shoulder to let him know he was okay.

They decided to wear old worn clothes since they were going to be blending in with the crowds in town. Shane learned that nothing sticks out more in these towns than a well dressed white man let alone a duo of them. Just in case things went south they were brought a change of clothes and their equipment in two old duffle bags slung over each other’s shoulder.

The day looked to be perfect so far. There were no signs of ill weather, the sun peaking through the thick canopy of the jungle along the river making the flowing water sparkle. Shane had a feeling the day was going to go well for the two men as they waited for Babu. After standing there without talking for several minutes Shane sighed and yawned as he stretched his arms above his head before saying, “Man, I hope he comes soon, I’m ready for a nap.” lowering his arms Shane adjusted his sunglasses as Steve chuckled, “Stop it.”

Steve pointed at Shane’s sunglasses and asked seriously, “Why do you wear them all the time? You could wear contacts you know.” Steve chuckled before looking up the river as Shane crossed his arms before he could speak Steve continued, “Your eyes should be used to the sunshine now dude, you’ve been in it for a long time now…  and don’t tell me shit that you can still go blind. Don’t you think your virus would have fixed that by now? I mean what kind of super virus heals every part of you but your eyes? Sounds like you got ripped off man.” Steve smirked looking at Shane who was tapping his sneaker on the concrete impatiently.

Shane knew Steve was playfully busting his balls but it was still a subject he didn’t like talking about. Shane hated to admit it but he was still paranoid he would go blind if he exposed his unprotected eyes to sunlight it still felt bright to him even with the glasses on.

Shane knew from experience to just ignore Steve’s verbal jabs and his teasing but sometimes it got to the point where he wanted to smack Steve on the back of the head and give him the worst noogie ever. But no sooner had he thought of that Shane’s mind jumped back to the day Wesker in a rare moment of humanity gave him one that day at the facility. Shane felt a rush of warmth and tingling inside his nasal cavity and felt the overwhelming sense of missing Wesker hit him. Shane inhaled deeply through his nose; he didn’t break down and kept his composure in front of Steve. It was so hard to not miss the old man considering everything he had done for him but Shane found that the feelings of sadness he felt weren’t as bad as they once were now that he had partners.

Noticing Steve was occupied with looking down the river for the boat, Shane moved away towards a tree down by the river’s edge. Shane then pulled out his cell phone and opened up his photo file and slipped an earpiece into his hear. Shane’s fingers glided over the images before he smiled looking at the photo Excella had taken of him and Wesker when they had gotten home from their jog one day.

Shane then looked at the video file of Wesker’s last will. It was morbid but it was the only thing he had left with Wesker’s voice on it. He wanted to hear the old man’s voice again but after the first sentence, Shane’s eyes started to well up from his emotions which lead him to sniffle. “Damn it…” He thought to himself while taking a breath.

Shane removed his sunglasses wiping his face as he scolded himself, “Stop this Shane, you need to tough it up. Beat these emotions back down, remember what he told you…”

Shane stood silently near a tree for a moment leaning on it with one hand before taking a deeper breath. He pocketed his phone after removing the earpiece and adjusted his clothing out of habit even though they didn’t need adjusting. Feeling he looked okay Shane slipped the sunglasses back onto his face when he heard the boat approaching the dock.

As the boat got closer Shane walked next to Steve who had a look of puzzlement on his face. Shane ignored it and simply said, “Let’s get going.” Both men grabbed their bags and waited for the boat to get closer. Once it was next to the dock they hopped aboard the boat allowing Babu to continue moving. Slowly he turned the boat around just as Shane headed down into the small room seeing the dent in the wall he had made when he first woke up. A small smile crossed his face before dropping his bag on the floor next to the bunk bed. Lying down in bed Shane could hear the muffled sound of Steve talking to Babu about fishing and swimming and other things. The poor mute man could do nothing but listen to Steve drone on and on the entire ride back up the river.

Still, Shane was happy Babu was keeping Steve occupied. This allowed him to finally be alone with his thoughts. His relaxation didn’t last long when an incoming message from the Black Queen beeped over his phone. Shane pulled out the phone looking at the image of the Black Queen and snapped, “What is it? Is something wrong?”

The Black Queen spoke in her cold emotionless tone, “No, I’m informing you that the movers have arrived and that your items are being moved as we speak. Sherry has stated she will be waiting for you when you come back home. I estimate the movers will be finished in about half an hour, long before your estimated time of return. Is there anything I can assist you with?”

Shane nodded and said, “Nope.” before he yawned.

The Black Queen spoke, “You are still recovering. You should rest during the boat trip which I estimate will take 4.3 hours if your current rate of speed stays constant. We can continue this conversation later if you wish.”

Shane nodded and yawned again before saying, “Yeah, sure later is best. We can talk about the flight to Canada later.”

The Black Queen’s spoke, “As you wish” and then her image vanished from the screen.

Shane laid back down on the rough bedding and sighed before closing his eyes trying to get a nap in before their small mission. Now his mind drifted suddenly he kept thinking about Sherry being alone back at the facility. Sighing in frustration Shane grabbed the cell phone again and brought the Black Queen back onto the screen and asked, “Will Sherry be okay by herself?”

The Black Queen simply stated, “Sherry is fine. She is currently overseeing the movers. In the event of any incident out of the norm, I am prepared to deal with it efficiently. The building defenses are activated and the area is secured from any internal or external threats. In the unlikely event of an emergency, you will be informed.”

Shane felt some relief when hearing this and he knew the building was secure, but he felt the need to make sure. Shane nodded, “Thank you.” And he yawned again.

The Black Queen spoke matter of fact, “You still require rest.”

Shane nodded again, “I know, signing off.” With that, the Black Queen’s image vanished from the screen and Shane put the phone away and drifted off to a deep sleep listening to the steady chugging of the boat engine.

4 hours 18 minutes later

Shane slept soundly on his back listening to the rhythm of the engine as Babu slowed the boat next to the messy and worn harbor. Steve tied the boat up to the old weather battered dock in the busy fishing port. The local fishermen did not take interest in the boat as they continued their daily chores to earn money, trade their latest catch, and to continue fishing to feed their hungry families at home. Steve sometimes felt bad for these people and wanted to help them, but there were millions of them like this. Something about it depressed him but there was something more behind this feeling and he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.

Steve got these feelings every now and then since he was woken up by Shane but he usually dismissed them in order to work on whatever task was at hand. He watched as an older man taught what he assumed was the man’s son how to fix fishing nets and something seemed to tug at the back of his mind but as soon as the feeling hit it passed and Steve shook his head trying to clear his head.

With that nagging feeling gone he still couldn’t shake feeling bad for these poor people and wishing he had the money to help them. Steve hoped one day that the illnesses that plagued these lands would one day vanish. He felt that with Shane and Wesker’s research maybe these people like this could someday live better lives.

Sweat beaded on Steve’s forehead as he sighed heavily from the heat of the sun, it was 3 P.M. in the afternoon and the heat and humidity made everything hazy and sweltering. Steve grumbled before moving toward the stairs and down to the small room where Shane was still sleeping soundly.

The kid was tired all the time which made Steve wonder why the virus hadn’t healed him up as it should have, and why it hadn't given him more energy but he had to consider what Shane had told him. Moving closer Steve placed a sweaty hand on Shane’s arm and shook him gently while whispering softly, “Shane, hey, time to wake up.”

Shane stirred and groaned slightly. His eyes blinked open giving off a faint reddish glow which Steve knew only happened when Shane was irritated or excited. Steve chuckle looking at Shane’s eyes as they closed again with a slight glow lighting up the man’s closed eyelids. Steve chuckle because it reminded him of seeing a Jack O Lantern in the dark. Shane groaned again in annoyance as Steve laughed and said, “Rise and shine Shane, we’re in the town.”

Shane smacked his lips and mumbled, “Can’t I have five more minutes?” as he covered his eyes with his right arm wanting to sleep more. Shane was still a bit sore but he couldn’t give the excuse he wasn’t feeling well considering he hadn’t been sick since he was a kid. Feeling Steve shaking him again Shane had no choice but to sit up while fumbling for his sunglasses that lay on the table next to the bed. He managed to grab the glasses and slipped them on as he sighed heavily. Shane stretched his arms before giving off a long, loud yawn. He hunched over with his hands on his knees and groaned, “I hate feeling like this...” Sitting for a moment Shane sighed again before getting up following Steve outside.

As always the mute Babu was standing in the wheelhouse of the small boat waiting for his orders. Shane stretched again as he stood on deck before he turned toward Babu and said, “We’ll be back in about an hour or so Babu, make sure the boat is fueled up and ready to leave in case we come back early.” Babu nodded and gave a “thumbs up” with his right hand before turning around and tending to the boat.

Steve wore an old faded blue baseball cap and he put on a pair of black sunglasses. He also wore a dark green short sleeve shirt with a pair of worn blue jean shorts and a pair of battered, dirty gray sneakers.

Shane put on a worn tan straw Panama Jack style hat with a black band around it. He wore a wrinkled black and gray striped polo shirt, tan khaki shorts and scruffy black sneakers.

Shane and Steve slowly moved from the boat onto the wooden harbor, their old worn sneakers kicking up dust from the dock with each step they took following the pathway between boxes of fish and fishing supplies until they made it to the main fish market section of the port. Wooden boxes and racks filled with ice contained various fish on display as the fishmongers sliced and cleaned the fish readying them for sale.

Shane saw that most of the stands had either live or dead fish in old barrels filled with tepid water and smiled seeing how well the men here were doing with their fishing. As much as they tried to blend in with the people at the fish market, Shane and Steve still stood out as being two of the palest people there. Of course, it didn’t matter to the crowd since the locals here seemed to mind their own business. The only things begging for attention were a few dogs that seemed to be wandering around looking for scraps from the fishmonger's tables.

Standing out of the crowd but glared instantly seeing two burly BSAA agents moving through the marketplace. Shane glared at the two men behind his sunglasses but kept walking until Steve stopped at a fruit stand making Shane halt instantly and stand beside Steve as he browsed the fruit.

Shane knew that if things got out of hand he and Steve were a deadly duo even if they didn’t have their equipment. Shane had his gift and Steve had T-Alexia inside him, a gift from Shane’s mother. The two could be considered brothers in a sense through the virus that flowed through each of their veins. Shane chuckled at the thought and that drew Steve’s attention for a moment before he turned back to the vendor. It surprised Shane that Wesker actually taught Steve the local dialects and it annoyed him at the same time since he couldn’t tell what the hell they were talking about.

More and more Shane found himself the only person in the land that knew nothing of the people’s customs or language. Learning from the Black Queen didn’t help much since there were so many pieces of information she would cram into each lesson he asked her to give him and it became impossible to hold on to most of it.

Shane couldn't believe his father was a genius if he was able to take in all the info that the Black Queen produced from a single question. Shane still wondered how his father could do that when sometimes even the basics of this language were hard for Shane to understand. Shane eventually scrapped learning it and continued with his studies to help him continue Wesker’s work. Most of the supplies and Uroboros were being shipped to Germany, even a few sampled of the flowers that made the viruses possible.

Shane sometimes found himself being squeezed by Sherry who fell in love with the flower when she found it in a test tube in the lab shortly after being able to stand up on her own. She had one flower in particular that she had a hard time keeping alive. Shane found it earlier looking dead and was half tempted to throw it out but Sherry insisted on keeping it. Before he left Sherry had transplanted it into another pot with a small bushy plant he had brought to her a few weeks ago. It made him smile seeing how well it had grown but also frown seeing it dying with the flower. Again Sherry insisted on keeping them, for what reason, he was not sure.

Steve drew Shane from his thoughts when he handed him a small bag full of bananas. Taking it in his hand Shane noticed the two BSAA agents getting closer to where they were and he was hoping their disguises would hold. Steve whispered, “Let’s go Shane.” while scratching his head through his baseball cap before looking at the two agents. Steve walked in front of them to the other side of the market which made Shane glare at him for such a foolish thing but it did draw the two agent’s attention away long enough for Shane to duck into a nearby building. The two agents looked around again for the strange man in the hat but he was missing.

Shane stood deep inside the old building’s hallway and smiled setting the bag down in a nearby stairwell before he moved up the stairs. As he sprinted up the steps he quickly grabbed a small oval tracking device from his pocket as he reached the old dirt covered stone roof. The small device was the size of a shirt button but was made out of a sturdy material that made it hard to break and even harder to detect by normal means.

Moving toward the ledge Shane looked down at the two BSAA agents as they milled about the crowd, he could easily dispose of them from this height but that wasn’t a part of his plans. Pressing the sides of the tracker with his thumb and pointer finger, he checked his phone seeing it was synched to his GPS as a little red dot marked its location on the map. Shane grinned before looking down at the men as he pressed the sides again on the tiny oval which caused tiny metal legs on the bottom of the tracker that clawed the air as he dropped it down watching it latch onto the top of the one agent’s baseball hat blending into the button on top of it.

An hour later

Shane and Steve were able to keep track of the BSAA’s outpost with ease thanks to the tracking device. They learned the team was leaving the area within the week which lifted their spirits knowing well enough that they were not going to be bothered again as they were preparing to move.

Shane chuckled while elbowing Steve’s side as they climbed down into the boat dropping off two heavy, worn and messy sacks below decks. Babu silently watched them from the wheelhouse, a curious look crossed Babu’s face as he watched the duo’s antics but the mute boat pilot couldn’t ask aloud what they were doing and was resigned to wonder to his self what the hell they were carrying on about. Babu watched the two younger men chuckle with one another like old friends or perhaps brothers sharing playful shoulder punches before Shane wrapped his arm around Steve’s neck pulling him close in a headlock as Shane’s other hand balled up into a fist that moved feverously over Steve’s head messing up his reddish brown hair. Steve squirmed like a trout a fish out of the water to try to get away while both men laughed.

Granted Babu had done and seen this same sort of behavior before as a child and watching other children play but it was odd to see this sort of behavior coming from men like this, especially considering the seriousness of his former employer. But Albert Wesker was dead and gone and apparently so too was the strict, cold way he conducted himself and his business here. Babu just shrugged and sighed and then went back to readying the boat for launch. Babu figured if Albert had trusted these men to carry on for him that was good enough.

Once Shane released Steve’s head from the strong headlock he whistled loudly towards Babu to get his attention and gave the boat captain a “thumbs up” signal. Babu started the boat knowing it was time to head back home. The engine rumbled and sputtered to life with a cough spewing a dark black cloud from the exhaust pipes. Shane moved toward the bow of the small craft watching the water as they headed off down the river. The steady current pulled them along speeding their trip.

Nobody aboard the riverboat knew they were being watched. In earth orbit among the many satellites and man-made space junk that flew around the heavens an “abandoned” Soviet satellite had been observing the river from the heavens. The cold reflective eye of its camera lenses zoomed in on the small boat as it sped down the river.

Nikolai studied the images carefully and intently as the satellite’s eye zoomed in on the moving boat causing the view to pixel and blur slightly. When the distortion cleared and the image became crisp Nikolai clearly saw Shane stretching his arms over his head and yawning. A tight smile pursed his lips as Nikolai said, “There he is.” drawing Gennady’s attention to him before looking at the screen, Shane had changed slightly from what he last saw in their files, the only difference was that Shane was wearing yellow sunglasses.

Instantly Gennedy looked at Nikolai and smiled in anticipation and asked, “Orders?” Nikolai watched the camera feed for a second and then turned to Gennedy, smiled tightly and nodded, “Proceed with Сокол Операции as planned.”  Gennedy turned on his heel instantly and ran from the monitor room to deploy the men and ready the BOWs. Helicopters whirling outside as men in fully black military attire filed into the ten nondescript helicopters disguised with the familiar Peace Corps logo. The CH-54 cargo helicopters were already lifting in the air carrying “six-pack” clusters of large tubular white canisters with markings that identified them as being filled with water, rice and other supplies usually ferried around the country by the peacekeeping organization.

Gennedy barked out orders to the men through their radios as a large shadow fell over him for a moment, Afanasii’s capsule was finally in the air drawing his attention to it momentarily. Gennedy smirked he knew Shane wasn’t going to stand a chance against her. She was programmed to do one thing and one thing only and having seen her in action during her trials Gennedy couldn’t wait to see what she would do now that her true target was at hand.

With haste, Gennedy slipped his black gloves on over his military green camouflage shirt that rested over his striped black and white shirt. He was ready for anything as he checked his two semiautomatic pistols and pocketed a few extra clips if needed. Jogging towards the command chopper he checked his watch and calculated the team would reach their objective with time to spare. It would be roughly an hour and a half before Shane got back to the facility. Gennedy got into his command chopper and took his seat beside the pilot in the cockpit, strapping in he slipped the headset as the loud whirling sounds of the blades was replaced with that of radio chatter, he gave the thumbs up to the pilot as they took off into the sky.

1 Hour 30 Minutes Later

Steve was sitting on a metal crate on the deck of the ship as he listened to the sounds of the jungle, the chugging of the boat engine and the rushing sound of the water all around them. The rhythm of the boat was relaxing and Steve was lost in thought and drifted into a relaxed sleep. His mind kept drifting to this image of an angelic figure of a girl in tight jeans and a red vest with golden wings coming out of her back. He had dreamed of her often but it seemed like whenever he tried to focus on her face his brain wouldn’t allow it. A white haze seemed to envelope her image and the only thing he was sure of was she had deep blue eyes. Steve often wondered what this meant, who she was and what was she supposed to represent when he was awake but it was, like many things in his past, a blur of images that he knew should mean something to him but he just couldn’t put his finger on why.

In the dreams, the angel never stayed long and was eventually replaced by a nightmarish vision of a wild-eyed man in a red military dress uniform who was trying to kill him. When Steve tried to run these things with skeleton faces and one giant arm always seemed to reach out of the darkness from behind the laughing man in red and grabbed him, pulling him back towards his enemy. Steve fidgeted in his sleep when the wild-eyed man was replaced by the naked gray woman with green hair. It was always the same, she stood in front of him looking at him as if he were an insect and then she would plunge her clawed green hand inside his chest and he would feel and see fire erupting from the wound. Steve could feel his blood turning black and boiling inside his body as the gray woman laughed at him.

Steve’s eyes suddenly snapped open and he felt cold sweat covering his body. After he shook off the nightmare he was suddenly aware of a something out of place. Steve focused his enhanced hearing past the usual jungle and river noises as he heard the sounds of helicopters. They weren’t as loud as normal ones that he had heard before but they were definitely helicopters and they were definitely not something usually heard in this area.

Dark green veins slowly appeared on Steve’s arms as he gripped the metal crate he had been resting on. His fingernails extended into dark green claws that clinked against the metal making a harsh screeching noise as they ran across it. The noise drew Shane’s attention from the front of the boat seeing Steve’s skin turning slightly green and gray as he seemed focused on the jagged patch of sky above the river.  Shane, suddenly on alert scanned their surroundings, his senses trying to pick up on what had Steve tensed for a fight.

Babu was utterly confused by the young men’s behavior. He didn’t see or hear anything out of the ordinary. Shrugging it off, the older man continued to pilot the boat down the river listening to the music of the engine and the pops of static on the small radio in the wheelhouse. Shane whistled toward Babu and gestured for him to cut the engine. Babu did so immediately letting the river pull them along as he steered.

Steve was tensed like a jungle cat and scanning the area around them. He turned once, stood for a moment and then turned back around to Shane before saying “We have inbounded aircraft… helicopters from the sound of it… possibly BSAA, but I’m not sure. So many organizations and armies use these types of aircraft here. Do you think they might have found us?”

Shane didn’t answer the question as he pulled out his phone and speed dialed Sherry. After two rings the phone picked up. As soon as her familiar voice said hello Shane replied, “Sherry? Where are you?”

Hearing her reply Shane looked at Steve, “She’s still inside the facility.”
Steve nodded and continued to listen to the approaching helicopters as Shane continued to speak to Sherry, "Sherry, has anything strange been sighted? No? Good, get whatever supplies you need, weapons and get inside the reinforced lab, we might have company coming.”

Shane waited a moment before nodding and saying, “All right, once we arrive, we’ll get you and head down to the private airport and get out of here. …I know … don’t worry, we can handle them.” There was a pause and suddenly Shane smiled and said softly, “I love you too.”

Shane hung up and pocketed the phone. He could finally hear the helicopters in the distance.  Shane whistled again at Babu and whirled his pointer finger in a circle at him signaling Babu to start the engine again. The mute nodded and suddenly the engine roared to life. They were very near the part of the river where the canopy of the jungle closed them off from view from the sky so the quicker they got to that cover the better Shane was going to feel about their chances. The boat resembled any private fishing vessel in this area so it’s not like they stood out, but still, Shane felt he needed to be extra careful here.

Shane walked over to Steve and said, “Sherry’s hiding in the lab. It’s heavily fortified like a bunker and there’s no way in there unless you have our eyes.” He said looking at Steve. “Let’s hope if it is the BSAA they’re just passing through the area onto someplace else.”

Steve stayed focused on the air as he spoke, “It’s hard to say who it is without a visual but for the number of rotors I hear it sounds like they’re moving a lot of people or equipment.”

Shane nodded, “I’m going below deck to get geared up. I want you to stay inside the cabin with Babu and keep an eye on things up here.”

After he went below and started to change into his fighting gear Shane heard the helicopters passing overhead and then fade off into the distance ahead of them. As he zipped up his vest a knock came on the cabin door and Steve spoke through it in a muffled voice, “I couldn’t see much through the canopy we’re floating under but from what I saw the helicopters were white and some of them were those funny looking cargo helicopters that look like a sprung grasshopper. So I think that rules out the BSAA.”

Shane opened the door and asked, “White? Nobody uses white helicopters around here except maybe… the United Nations or the… the… what are they called… the Peace Corps! Did you see any markings or lettering?”

Steve shrugged, “They flew too fast above the jungle covering to really see anything except the white paint jobs. Besides, I checked the tracking device and according to it the BSAA are still inside their compound.”

Shane nodded, “Well that rules out the BSAA… most everyone else is strictly military all the way as far as paint schemes go… but still with that many choppers in the air suddenly heading in the same direction we’re headed in… I think we should keep going with the assumption that something isn’t right here. Call it a gut feeling, I don’t know but I think we should stay cautious until we get to the facility and know for sure nothing is wrong.”

Steve shrugged, “Okay man, you’re the boss.” With that, Steve went back on deck and stood with Babu in the cabin as Shane strapped his kukri blades to his back and thought, “God I hope this gut feeling is wrong, I really do…”

Chapter 5

The facility

Sherry was breathing calmly as she looked at the metal doors before looking back at the black orb that was with her. The Black Queen was comforting to have around whenever Sherry felt alone. Even though she was never really alone anymore Sherry still had a feeling of being alone sometimes. The Black Queen was like her guardian angel against the loneliness.

Like the angel with gold wings in her dreams that seemed to protect her from the nightmares. Whenever she woke up from such dreams she would instinctively grab for the faded red vest that hung off her bedpost and hugged it. Somehow nuzzling against the old thing brought her an overwhelming sense of comfort and protection. Sherry refused to go anywhere without wearing the old thing and Steve would tease her about it being her security blanket. Steve could tease all he wanted though, Sherry didn’t care. All she knew was the vest made her feel strong and safe and she would never stop wearing it.

Sherry absentmindedly hugged herself and caressed the vest as she walked towards a supply closet. Approaching the door she asked aloud, “Black Queen, are they back yet?” Sherry grabbed a nut-filled chocolate bar, unwrapped it and bit into it hungrily waiting for the Black Queen to respond. She was famished and so far this was the only meal she had all day due to her constant packing and cleaning since waking up.

In seconds The Black Queen linked to a Soviet-era weather satellite which was orbiting above their section of the world and easily hacked into its onboard cameras. Things appeared normal until the camera zoomed in on the airspace above the jungle which showed a phalanx of inbound helicopters with UN markings racing towards their location. Checking the UN database the Black Queen searched for operations by the organization in the area and found none were present in this country.

Sherry was startled when the lockdown procedure had started to seal off the room and the ever-calm voice of the Black Queen spoke, “Possibly hostile aircraft are inbound and estimated time of arrival is fifteen minutes at current speed. Sherry, you are not to leave this room until Shane and/or Steve come to collect you. The facility is now in lock-down mode.”

Sherry was visibly worried and asked, “What about Shane and Steve? Where are they?” The Black Queen spoke matter of fact, “Shane and Steve will be arriving shortly by boat with Babu but they will not be able to reach us before the aircraft.”

Sherry asked, “So I can’t do anything but wait? What if they need help?”

The Black Queen spoke again, “I have the utmost confidence Shane, Steve and Babu will be able to handle any threats posed by the aircraft and their occupants if they are indeed a threat to this facility.”

Sherry bit her lower lip nervously and once again hugged her vest. A nearby panel slid open revealing several handguns, a rifle and a survival knife on a silver rack. It extended from the panel as Sherry looked at it worriedly.

The Black Queen told Sherry, “Arm yourself. In the unlikely event the walls of the facility are breached you must be prepared to defend yourself.”

Sherry sighed and walked over to the rack picking up the handgun in its holster and started to strap it to her thigh. As she did all she could think of was how much she disliked guns and how much she wished Shane were here.

Meanwhile, on the river…

Shane tapped his foot feverishly against a metal panel near the front of the boat keeping pace with his heart as it pounded in anticipation. At the speed the boat was going they would be at the facility in a little over fifteen minutes and he did not like that at all. His senses were warning him that something was amiss in the jungle around them, stalking them, watching them. Steve felt it as well but wasn’t sure what it could be. They could hear the helicopters nearby but they couldn’t see through the thick canopy to really make out where the damn things could be.

The loud snapping of tree branches and thump of metal against the muddy shore ahead of them startled the three men on the boat. Through the small hole in the ceiling of overgrown trees, a white helicopter hovered and then took off. A large clamp on its underbelly was visible briefly as it flew away.

The long tubular capsule jutted out of the muddy shore at an odd angle. The closer the boat edged down the river towards it the tenser the two young men became. Shane had already drawn one of his .45s and Steve’s fingernails on his right hand flexed and grew into green claws that extended from his fingers which had also started to become vein-covered, thick and green.

The two men’s eyes locked onto the container for long moments but nothing seemed to be happening. After a moment Steve asked Shane, “What do you think? Could it be a dud?”

Shane, said, “I don’t know…” and made a simple hand gesture to Babu in the pilot house of the boat, the mute slowed the boat down just long enough for the two young men to hurry to the back of the boat to watch the capsule never taking their eyes off it as they made their way to the rear of the boat. Both Steve and Shane were jolted with surprise when a muffled high pitch screech issued from the capsule.

They could hear frantic screeches and what sounded like nails scraping against metal as the capsule shook violently. Their hearts were racing as they heard the tube’s door hiss and loudly pop open and landed on the slimy bank. Instantly Shane felt his back itch when clawed reptilian hands gripped the sides of the tube and the flat, ridged head of the reptilian BOW finally emerging with its yellow eyes darting about. Faintly Shane said, “Hunter…” and almost as if it had heard him the fanged grimacing face of the monster looked toward the boat and shrieked loudly.

Babu turned instantly toward the horrible noise in the wheelhouse as his eyes widened seeing the monster, without thinking he put the boat at full throttle having it lurch forward causing Shane and Steve to tumble like toddlers against the railing of the boat. The Hunter shrieked again and sprinted towards them along the river bank.
Shane aimed his gun at the beast intending to shoot it, but he stood there trying to keep it in his sights but it proved difficult. The shot wouldn’t be very easy for Shane to take considering they were on a moving boat being chased erratically by a moving target. He was afraid of missing the creature. Looking at it he felt almost helpless like he did all those years ago in Raccoon City when one just like it very nearly killed him.

Shane could only mumble a curse of revenge against the foul creature. Steve looked at Shane and then back at the raging green monster that was running and leaping along the bank toward them. Steve looked at Shane and then back at the monster waiting for him to take the shot but he didn’t and the shoreline was starting to wind towards them.

Steve said in impatient disgust, “Ugh, fuck this noise!” raised his clawed hand which was suddenly engulfed in flame and leveled it at the Hunter. Grunting, Steve’s hand launched a fireball from his palm and struck the Hunter dead center as it leaped towards them. Screaming in pain the Hunter flopped backward engulfed in flames and landed hard on the embankment. As it thrashed wildly Steve fired another fireball at its blunt head exploding it in a shower of sparks and gore.

Shane looked over at Steve, “I would have gotten him!”

Steve smirked as the flames on his hand suddenly snuffed out, “When was that gonna be?”

Before Shane could answer the jungle suddenly erupted in screeches as a dozen Hunters suddenly bound into view out of the jungle and began chasing the boat along the river bank.

Steve ignited his hand again, “Well this is gonna suck…”

With that Shane and Steve began firing on their lizard-like pursuers as Babu sped off down the river. As he managed to shoot the eye out of one of the Hunters all Shane could do was pray they could finish the ugly bastards off before they got to the facility and Sherry.

Facility Room

Sherry was standing at the glass window looking into the control room, thankfully the Black Queen had made the room she was in the dark so no one would see Sherry but this made Sherry a bit nervous since the only light was from the capsules and the control room booth. Her fingers were tapping against the wall as Sherry looked around inside the booth, now and then she could hear something but what startled her most was a hard crashing sound somewhere close by. When she asked the Black Queen what it was, she only got a silent reply, but Sherry knew it was something serious, something that would send chills up her spine.

The Black Queen seemed to have lost a momentary connection with the room when the massive capsule had been dropped above the forest, right down into the bedroom section of the compound, with a loud hiss, the hinges of the capsule popped allowing the massive being inside to step out, the thick black military issued boots tapped threateningly against the floor

“Sssshane…” Came a voice beyond the door making her look instantly to the securely locked metal door, the young woman was shaking in her boots as she made herself move toward it slowly listening carefully as the voice spoke again “Shane…” which gave away the feminine voice, on the other side of the door a tall figure walked away leaving Sherry lost in wonder as to who it could have been.

Moving back from the door Sherry headed to her safe spot she made herself, behind one of the many capsules within the room, upon sitting on the floor, Black Queen turned a screen on one of the control panels making Sherry look at it instantly seeing Shane and Steve hurrying up the stairs near the harbor making the young woman smile and thanked God that they were okay.

But her thanks stopped as she saw three large lizard-like creatures chasing after the men making her gasp and cover her mouth in anxious fear. When the view changed to the camera under the roof, she saw Shane covering Steve at the top of the stairs, Steve was opening the door before they both dashed inside just as the Hunters shrieked and leaped to the top of the stairs. Screeching in rage at not finding their prey the hunters clawed helplessly at the heavy doors.

Sherry’s relieved sigh of, “Thank God in Heaven.” broke the silence in the room as she got up and moved to the window looking into the control room hoping that Shane or Steve would pop into the room. Instead, she froze upon seeing that tall, pale being in the hallway. Sherry looking at the black bubble on the ceiling shouted, “Oh God... Black Queen! Quickly alert them about that being that was calling for Shane!” She was trying her best to not panic but her primal instincts were screaming that this… this creature was something that was seriously dangerous and deadly.

Rear Entrance

Shane and Steve were catching their breath in the waiting room as they looked back at the doors hearing the Hunters shrieking their unearthly cry before the sickening sounds of their claws against the metal door leading down to the harbor, Babu was going to defend the boat till they got back, thankfully most of the Hunters had gone after Shane and Steve giving Babu a chance to breathe as he got ready.

Steve griped, “Goddamn, there’s so many of them!” as he rubbed his right arm. “I don’t think I can keep using my fire, I’m already starting to feel sore and drained… but damn!” He said shaking his head as they heard a loud crash in the hallway drawing their attention.

Instantly Shane aimed a .45 watching the dust filling the hallway as did the sounds of unearthly, bubbling moans and groans which sent chills up their spines. “Oh shit…” Steve whispered now realizing what it was when the first three zombies came into view, it was clear that they were once locals from the tattered and bloodstained clothing they wore.

Shane couldn’t understand this at all. To cause a biohazard on this scale was insanity. Just to get at him someone unleashed these monsters in a jungle of all places. So many things could be infected and spread this thing like wildfire.

Shane pushed his questions aside in an instant and opened fire on the shambling zombies taking care to get headshots with each round he fired. His time in Raccoon City was filling his mind and he knew not to get distracted by the how or why and never, ever hesitate. The first three fell with sickening thuds as their heads exploded with blossoms of blood, bone and brain matter. As they fell more zombies started to appear through the hole in the wall leading to another part of the facility. It looked as if they infected every fishing village leading up to the facility as Shane said in anger, “I’m getting pissed off here.” as Steve scoffed taking the other .45 off Shane’s right leg.

Steve smirked and said, “Well it's obvious you pissed someone off.” as they heard hard footsteps approaching the hole in the wall. A tall looming figure came into view as the two continued firing at the zombies that seemed oblivious to this giant coming behind them. Steve seemed to hesitate in his shooting as he looked at the tall female figure that came into view. Something in his memory jolted him for a second, a pale woman with a syringe laughing a haughty evil laugh and then he snapped out of and point-blank shot a zombie he had let get a little too close in the face.

The woman was tall wearing a heavy black leather coat like a biker might wear with a thick leather belt around her waist that had a giant pouch on the left side. She wore black jeans and thigh-high heavy leather boots and leather gloves. Her jet black hair was cut in a short pixie/tomboy style and it contrasted the almost albino paleness of her skin. Her eyes were opaque white with a hint of blue behind the milky covering. Her face was a death mask of anger that seemed to focus like a laser right on Shane as soon as she entered the room oblivious to the undead shuffling past her. It was in this instant Shane realized she wasn’t human at all and she reminded him of the Tyrant class B.O.W.s Umbrella once made.

Her low hissing whisper of a voice rasped “Sssshane.” as she started a slow steady walk towards him, Shane swallowed hard at the sight in front of him. As she walked she pushed straight towards the milling, shuffling crowd of undead that clogged the hallway. Her powerful arms began backhanding and punching zombies out of her way like rag dolls, smashing them off walls and snapping their bodies apart.

Steve was the first to open fire at the female tyrant as Shane soon followed suit. The bullets smacked off her jacket and face but none punched through her skin only tore holes in her jacket. Her breathing was only interrupted by grunts and growls as she moved towards the duo unfazed by the bullets or the zombies. The two young men continued firing as they walked back as far back as they could in the small waiting room but the Tyrant wouldn’t stop no matter how many rounds found their mark on her but they both knew they needed to get past her and find Sherry before heading back to the boat.

As the two began to move in opposite directions it was clear she was after Shane which made him relieved in a sense since it will give Steve a chance to run past her and find Sherry, while reloading Shane snapped, “Steve, go get Sherry!” before ducking to avoid being grabbed and he rushed forward as hard as he could in such as small space making her move back only enough for him to run to where Steve was.

Shane barked, “Now!” pushing him out of the way as Steve hesitated slightly but did as ordered, running past the Tyrant and avoiding the zombies as he vanished beyond Shane’s line of sight. Now that he was alone Shane surprisingly felt some small relief that as he side-stepped the Tyrant’s heavy fist which bashed through the wall behind him opening it up into a gaping hole.

Shane laughed, “Thanks doll!” and jumped through the hole and dashed away from her smacking into a zombie he hadn’t realized was there. The hungry ghoul’s rotten breath singed his nose as it grabbed him from behind biting hard into his upper left arm, tearing into his black shirt and flesh making him shout from the sharp pain of the broken teeth tearing into his arm.

Shane growled, “Son of a…!” before jerking free as he turned quickly kicking the zombie on the chest knocking it back against two others that had bunched up nearby but he soon yelped when the Tyrant reached through the hole, grabbed his head and slammed him against the wall hard breaking the hole wider. Shane spun free of the Tyrant’s iron grip, tumbled and rolled hitting another wall.

Shane had felt this before when his father was training him and he pushed past the pain and got up quickly just as the female Tyrant was coming through the opening. “Black Queen, what the hell is this thing? Is it a Tyrant!?” He snapped looking around for an exit but he knew he needed to make sure Sherry and Steve were all right. Shane hadn’t heard any gunfire since Steve ran to get Sherry and he was starting to worry.

Shane looked at the Tyrant and rapidly fired his gun at her center mass hitting her in the same spot over and over again as he backed away from her. The Tyrant charged at him and until he heard something crack in her chest and a plume of purple ichor erupted from her chest. Shane kept firing until his clip ran dry as she stumbled, whispered his name, “Sssshane!” and dropped to one knee cracking the tile under it with a heavy thud before she swayed dizzily and fell face forward onto the tiled floor.

A puddle of purplish black blood started to pool around her on the floor as Shane smiled and hurried down the hallway and into the courtyard heard a helicopter whirling overhead. It hovered just beyond the treetops making it almost invisible, the flickering sunlight that flowed through the branches glinted off his sunglasses for a moment till he heard something he didn’t want to hear …the inhuman screeching of Hunters in the woods around him.

Meanwhile with Sherry…

Sherry had whacked Steve on the head hard with a glass capsule thinking he was the monster that spoke, but she was thankful it wasn’t considering how small she was and not that strong, Shane had been helping her train so she was good at some fighting but not serious ones since her build was more for sneaking and fitting into small spaces like she did when she was a child, but that’s the only thing she could remember was running and hiding from the monster in Raccoon City, there were people that she could hear in her head but their faces and names could never surface. Shane knew the reason since Wesker told him in a private report that he had typed up on Sherry, to help her forget the nightmares, one of the processes that Shane would have undergone if he didn’t accept what happened then.

Steve was rubbing his head when Sherry looked at him putting down what was left of the capsule before holding his one arm hearing the unearthly moans of the zombies coming to the door and before long they heard pounding on the strong door but she hated it, the light memories made her shake thinking of how small she was but she could feel Steve was a bit tense because of the zombies as she asked, “Where’s Shane?”

Steve shrugged, “When we came in, there was an explosion, then zombies were coming in and so did some strange creature. It’s like some female giant, we tried killing her but none of the bullets would do anything. He wanted me to get you out.” He said rubbing his throbbing skull before looking at the door hearing shrieks of the Hunters that were entering the facility.

Steve groaned before checking the .45 and frowned instantly realizing he was out of ammo but he was going to hang onto it since it was Shane’s gun. “All right, we have to get around them and down to the dock, Babu is waiting for us. Sherry, do you think you can squeeze through the vents and distract those things outside the door?” He asked as he pointed to the high vent on the wall as Sherry looked at it for a second before nodding that she could.

Steve said loudly, “All right, Black Queen, can you bring up a map of the vents for us?” Soon a monitor flashed to life with the blueprints to the vents allowing the two to look it over quickly. “You’ll end up in the dining room if you take that path; there shouldn’t be anything in there or the kitchen. They were locked tight so you can make it into the other vents that will take you to the armory. Once you get in there load up with as much ammo and weapons as you can carry.”

Steve turned away from her for a second, “Black Queen why aren’t the defense systems on?” He asked as the screen flickered as the word “Malfunction” appeared on the screen having him kick the floor, hiding his cursing under his breath as he said, “Son of a bitch!”

Sherry was confused as to how that could happen, but considering all the explosions and sounds she had been hearing, she could understand that the damage could have interfered with the commands and that of the controls to the defenses, whoever was attacking wanted them dead or caught from what she was feeling.

Shane shouted out in annoyance while kicking another Hunter, slicing it down the middle of its blunt skull with a kukri blade instantly killing it before slicing through another wounded hunter’s chest, twisting the blade in at out at superhuman speed, coring its heart out like the center of an apple. Shane staggered backward covered in blood and gore exhausted as he looked around the mass of bodies, limbs and shredded meat, scattered in horrific heaps.

Shane was ambushed by a pack of Hunters and the group of zombies that survived the tyrant’s onslaught followed him outside along with others that seemed to be popping up out of the jungle more and more. Shane was out of ammo and his kukris were all he had left to defend himself. While the creatures didn’t stand a chance against his strength and speed he was hurt and exhausted from the zombie bite. His system could fight it off eventually but he would need rest for it. So far it didn’t look like that was going to happen anytime soon.

Shane’s clothes were torn and tattered from the attacks and close calls he got in the fierce battle. Alone he could handle them easily but when Hunters and zombies attack in packs even someone of his speed gets tagged, especially when they backed him against the security wall that surrounded the rear of the facility. Shane lost his sunglasses during the melee when a Hunter pounced onto his back and he was pissed off the most by that. He knew he needed to find them if they weren’t broken. The glasses were a gift from Albert Wesker and he cherished them more than any gift Wesker had given him. Sure he liked his weapons and clothes but the glasses were something special, a one of a kind thing that he didn’t want to lose.
Still, Shane was exhausted and felt feverish and slightly dizzy. Shane actually dropped down to his knees not only to look for the glasses but to sit down, if only for a minute before he moved on to find Sherry and Steve. Searching through the bodies he had butchered he noticed he was bleeding more than he thought from bites and cuts as he took sitting back on his legs Shane sighed and took a deep breath. It was then he heard the crunch of concrete as he looked up and a tall shadow loomed over him.

The Tyrant stood in the hole in a wall as the light of the room behind her outlined her massive frame. She rasped, “Sssshane!” and began stalking toward him stepping on a zombie’s skull popping it like a grape. Shane got up on one knee as his rage welled up inside, infusing him with adrenaline and energy he didn’t think he had in him. Shane’s eyes flashed red with anger as he looked up at her holding his kukris as he screamed defiantly, “All right bitch! Let’s do this!”

Shane could feel his body starting to shake as the virus was working overly hard inside him to heal his wounds, revitalizing his body as his eyes glowed when he clenched his teeth as the Tyrant charged, her right hook missing Shane by an inch as he rolled out of the way as she bashed into the concrete security wall he was resting in front of.

Suddenly a static voice with a thick Russian accent crackled from the radio pouch on the tyrant’s belt. “Afanasii! Complete your mission!” Afanasii growled, “Sssshane!” As Shane darted towards her and hacked at her with his blade, slashing her jacket but only putting a thin scratch upon her skin under it. Her meaty fist swung and backhanded Shane spiraling him backward through the air until he slammed ass first into a decapitated zombie, crushing its ribcage.

The tyrant turned around to face Shane as her blank eyes narrowed, never losing focus on her target. Shane was wobbly as he got back on his feet, a purple welt already swelling on his left cheek as he gripped his blade handles and gritted his teeth, a pink film of blood covering them as a small trickle of it ran out of his nose and the corners of his mouth.

The tyrant took a slow step towards him and then quickened her pace with each step until she was in a full run towards him. Shane panted readying his kukris as her bull charge got closer the radio on her belt crackled and the same Russian voice yelled, “We need him alive, don’t forget that Afanasii!” Suddenly Shane recognized the voice as the shock of recognition flashed across his face for a brief second before Afanasii’s right arm wound back before unleashing a roundhouse punch that Shane dodged before dashing past her and slicing her stomach as he ran by putting some distance between himself and the tyrant that skidded to a stop before slowly turning around to face Shane again.

Shane yelled at the tyrant, “Nikolai! Can you hear me, old man? Your monsters aren’t going to take me alive you Ruskie fuck! Do you hear me? If you want me, you're going to have to come down here and get me yourself you goddamn pussy, come down here and get me yourself!” Shane couldn’t hide the bitter anger in his voice. This man ruined his life and he would be damned if he was going to let him think he could take him down.

As Shane backed up, Afanasii watched him and started stalking towards him again whispering his name. Shane jerked slightly as his earpiece came to life, with Steve’s voice telling him he and Sherry were heading back down to the harbor, but the Black Queen had set the self-destruct to activate in ten minutes, which would allow them time to get away.

Shane knew he needed to get around this Tyrant and fast. The Black Queen had told him what would happen in the event of a viral outbreak and unless they really hauled ass in the boat down the river there wasn’t going to be any way they could survive this. In order to get down to the harbor, Shane was on the wrong side of the building to make a beeline to it. Thinking fast Shane yelled, “Come on bitch… free shot!” He said as he put his kukris back onto the back of his vest. He winced as he shifted his weight and the pain of his flesh parting from the deep claw and bite wounds sent burning shockwaves of pain through him.

Shane thought to himself, “I have only one shot at this…” and looking around he saw he could make a jump to the roof if he rebounded off a few old wooden crates but he knew the Hunters would be an issue and the zombies, but he didn’t care, Sherry was in danger as he took a few breaths just as Afanasii ran at him allowing him to duck from her swing before running toward the crates.

Shane cursed to himself tripping over a severed leg as he stumbled into a leap that took him to the second crate. He climbed the stacks of crates before jumping up grabbing the edge of the roof. Suddenly he felt a vice grip covered in leather grabbing his left ankle making him scream and kick hard with his right foot planting it on the tyrant’s face repeatedly until her grip slackened allowing him to slip free and pull himself to the roof.

Shane raced across the roof, hopping and leaping over the various pipes, air conditioner units and vents until he reached the other side. Skidding to a stop he saw Steve and Sherry below him hurrying down the stairs towards the boat as a loudspeaker announced, “Attention all personal! The triggering system has now been activated! All personnel is to evacuate to the minimum safe distance immediately.” As the cold female voice mechanically repeated the warning Shane felt glad his friends were okay.

Suddenly behind him, a raspy voice said, “Sssshane!” as Shane spun around seeing Afanasii ripping a heavy industrial air conditioning unit off its mooring and hurled it at him full force. Shane leaped backwards off the roof and grabbed onto a window ledge below the roof as the unit smashed into the part of the roof he was just standing on sending chunks of concrete and metal debris flying over his head as the unit split apart sending its mechanical guts and coolants spilling out before smashing noisily into the ground below him.

Shane growled, “Damn thing won’t leave me alone.” As he dropped down from the ledge into a crouch, he grunted and then sprinted down toward the boat as he shouted, “Steve! Grab some grenades from the forward compartment on the boat!” Sherry gasped at the battered and bloody sight of Shane. She started to hurry towards him but Shane waved her off and screamed, “Run! Don’t worry about me! Get to the boat we have to get the hell out of here!” Sherry was going to run when she saw up on the roof the tall woman in the leather jacket glaring at Shane and she froze. Shane ran towards her and scooped Sherry up into his arms and ran her towards the boat.

As soon as he set Sherry down on the deck he saw Steve fishing several grenades out of the compartment at the front of the boat. Shane looked around in a panic as he saw the Tyrant leap down from the roof and land on the ground in a crouch, a hard thud in front of the main entrance of the building. As Shane looked back at the boat he noticed the emptiness of the main cabin and yelled, “Where’s Babu?” Suddenly the mute boat captain popped up from below decks and gave a small wave as Shane said quickly, “Get the boat started we have to get out of here now. Full speed and go with the current we gotta put distance between us and this place as fast as possible!”

Babu nodded and started as Sherry looked at Shane with increasing worry. Suddenly Steve yelled, “I got ‘em!” as he hurried to Shane who watched as the Tyrant slowly stalked towards the steps and started walking down them. Sherry watched the tyrant and felt her heart sink instantly, the memories in her mind flashing images of the bald gray skinned giant in the green trench coat chasing her as the angel in the red vest defended her from it.

The bizarre flashback lasted a second before Sherry was jolted back into reality. It was that moment that Steve knew what to do with the frag grenade, when the boat jerked forward he nearly dropped it as he pulled the pin and threw it at Afanasii with him shouting, “Get down!” as everyone did so just as the grenades detonated drowning out the Tyrant screaming Shane’s name as she was blasted backward by the shrapnel and shockwave slamming her against the concrete stairs with a sickening crack.

Shane smiled at the smoldering Tyrant sprawled across the steps like a broken rag doll and said to Sherry, “They don’t make them like they used to.” Sherry smiled at him as he held her in his arms. Sherry’s shy smile barely hid her worry for Shane as she wiped the blood from his wounds. Her fingers brushed over the wounds as they knitted together leaving nothing but the stain of his blood on the pink scars that were left behind.

Sherry’s worry disappeared watching Shane’s tissue regenerate and recover quickly which made her smile. Shane looked down at Sherry lovingly and kissed her passionately which made her blush. Steve chuckled but he suddenly felt empty and got this nagging feeling that he was so close to having a kiss like that once with a girl that seemed to dance at the edge of his memories once but he lost that chance and it made him feel a dreadful sadness that went as quick as it came. Steve was glad his friend, his boss, was happy.

But the happiness was short-lived when they heard Babu let loose a wet rattling coughing fit which drew everyone’s attention. They had never heard the man make a sound, ever and suddenly they noticed the coughing fit that seemed to shake Babu’s entire body. The normally swarthy man looked very pale and they could see the beads of sweat pouring off his head and staining his shirt.

Shane was concerned and let go of Sherry approaching the man as he asked, “Are you okay Babu?” Sherry, her face once again etched with worry walked toward the pilot house of the boar but Babu held up a hand waving her away and shaking his head “no” at her. Shane asked, “Babu, did you get bit?” as Babu frowned sadly and nodded rolling up his sleeve and showing a bloody bandage on his forearm making Sherry look back at Shane who instantly said, “Sherry, we can’t go back to the facility to get the antivirus. The self-destruct system is counting down and we’d be fighting the current to get back there… we’d all get caught in the blast… I’m sorry.”

Shane turned towards Babu as if to say he was sorry but Babu shook his head “no” in a stern manner, almost as if he were angry Shane felt sorry for him. Babu continued the fast pace of the boat as he grabbed a clipboard and weakly scribbled a lengthy message on it in pencil, and then handed the clipboard to Steve who was standing nearby.

Steve read the note aloud, “I’ll distract the men in the helicopters while the three of you run to the airfield. I will pull close to the shore where you can leap off. It has been an honor working for you all.” Steve looked at Babu, his eyes welling up as his voice cracked saying, “Babu… I’m so sorry…” Babu nodded and patted Steve on the shoulder before turning around and pointed towards the shore as they neared it, nearly scraping the side of the muddy land.

Shane and Sherry leaped off the boat as Steve looked back once more sadly as Babu pointed towards the shore again. Steve leaped and hit the ground in a crouch before turning around and seeing Babu gun the engines and take off down the river. Babu turned and waved to them before he disappeared around a bend in the river.

Shane patted Steve on the shoulder, “Come on we better hurry; I think we have five minutes left before this place is history.” Steve nodded as Shane picked up Sherry and the trio took off at superhuman speeds. Sherry gripped Shane tight as the men ran through the jungle which was now lousy with zombies and an occasional Hunter or two.

Sherry screamed when they were nearly pounced on by a particularly agile one that came leaping out of a tree, missing Shane’s head by inches as it swiped at him. Shane held her tighter as he dodged the B.O.W. that hit its face into a tree trunk hard knocking it senseless. As Steve ran by the dazed creature his boot heel connected to its skull smashing it into the ground with a wet crack and popping noise.

Steve ran past another and despite the fact it was in no real danger of touching them he set it and a nearby zombie on fire with his hand making it shriek, that unearthly cry made Shane yell over his shoulder, “Hurry it up kid, we ain’t got time to fuck around!”

The countdown was nearly at the two-minute mark when they finally arrived at the hidden airfield. Long thought abandoned the airfield was used as a backup escape route in case anything went wrong with the river route they would usually use. A jet black helicopter was waiting for them underneath camouflage netting to hide it from the air. The pilot and co-pilot had already pulled the tarp off and were doing their walk around check of the aircraft as the Shane and Steve skidded to a stop in front of them and the helicopter.

An explosion somewhere within the jungle shook the trees in the distance drawing everyone’s attention briefly before Shane asked the pilot, “Is this thing ready to fly?”

The pilot nodded, “Yes sir, just a last minute check. Can never be too careful.” as he hopped inside the cockpit door, the co-pilot started flipping switches starting the engine as Steve got into the gunner seat in the rear and helped Sherry into the helicopter. Shane sighed looking back at the jungle as zombies began shuffling out of the edged of the jungle. Shane sighed as he got inside the helicopter and closed the sliding rear door.

Nikolai killed these people for nothing and had forced Shane to leave the home that his father, Albert, had given him. As the helicopter rose into the air Shane couldn’t take his eyes off the shambling creatures that seemed to be wandering after them, their arms outstretched and clawing at the empty air.

Shane was going to see Nikolai pay for every single life he took today and for everything he had forced Shane to destroy. The Co-Pilot turned around and handed Shane a small box. Opening it he saw a new pair of gold sunglasses. Frowning Shane put the sunglasses on and then put his radio headset on and looked back out the window. His anger was interrupted by Sherry grabbing hold of his hand as the helicopter started speeding away from the airfield and farther and farther away from the facility he once called home. Shane turned towards Sherry who gripped his hand tighter, which made him smile slightly.

The Co-Pilot turned back around to Shane and handed him a PDA as he spoke, “Sir? We have reports from units Zulu and Romeo.” Shane took the PDA and looked at it as the files chimed onto the screen just as a blinding flash lit up the interior of the helicopter as the sound of the explosion reached them seconds later, as the shockwave rocked the helicopter forward making Sherry cling to Shane’s arm tightly. A few warning alarms blared within the cabin but the pilot and co-pilot flicked a few switches, checked gauges and then gave Shane a thumbs-up.

Steve looked out the gunner’s seat door and watched as the giant mushroom cloud in the distance rose like an angry orange and black god ascending to the heavens. The jungle they had just run through was reduced to flaming debris and nothingness. Steve was in shock at the size of the blast radius that seemed to go on for miles and miles the edge of which ended a few miles behind where the helicopter was now flying. What wasn’t immediately vaporized in the blast was now on fire, acres and acres of the jungle were in flames making it look like a literal hell on earth.

Shane read Zulu’s report from Germany, things were going smoothly and they had activated the old mansion-like laboratory in Dunkelwald, Germany. Black Queen was making full use of the facilities already and would be fully operational by the time Shane arrived. This report made Shane smile knowing that they would at the very least have a good home now that he hoped wouldn’t be discovered by Nikolai.

Shane then read the Romeo report that detailed an old Umbrella lab that had been abandoned since the early 1970’s. The road leading to it has become overgrown with foliage from the surrounding forest making it next to impossible to tell there had once been a road there. Only a trained guide would be able to lead them to the lab which is still largely intact and surprisingly suffered very little plant damage over the passage of time. There had been some movement detected within the outer facility but according to the report it’s believed to have been caused by wildlife that managed to get inside the outer building itself and not the lower levels which are still hidden and locked. All the coordinates for both facilities had now been uploaded to the PDA.

This made Shane smile inside; he’d finally be able to get some of the old testing reports from the old computers as well as samples that would have been preserved in cold storage. Even Umbrella’s long-abandoned facilities Umbrella had power in the labs. They were always tapped into whatever power supply was nearby but in a way, so they would never be noticed by anyone at the local power company.

Shane’s eyes soon fell onto Sherry who had snuggled up against him and fell asleep holding onto his arm. Shane let her sleep since he knew when she woke up he would have to tell her he was going to Canada while she and Steve headed to Germany. He knew if something went bad he would be better suited to handle things by himself rather than drag the poor girl into it and have to worry about her the entire mission. Just like his father, he would have to handle this alone.

Chapter 6

It had been a few hours since the old facility was destroyed. As Shane’s group arrived at an airport a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean their objectives were clear on what they were to do but Shane didn’t want to leave just yet. They were all exhausted, especially Shane since he overworked himself once again to stay alive. Albert Wesker told him things would be much easier but at the same time harder, but unlike Shane, Wesker was gone so he didn’t have to worry about being hunted down by a crazy, old Russian who believed that one belonged to him.

After getting into the car, Shane held Sherry close as she slept on his lap while Steve dropped on the passenger seat and was about to pass out from exhaustion. They weren’t leaving the airport area just moving themselves to a small warehouse that had beds within so the three could rest and recuperate before the journey ahead. Shane felt relieved that they weren’t followed but he hated having to part with Sherry for the few days he would be gone.

Shane understood now why Albert never fell in love with anyone. The risk to them was too great and it was too painful to be away from someone, even though he thought he understood Albert’s motivations to be alone he also thought that maybe the reason he ultimately failed was that he was alone in the end with no friends or family to come to his rescue. Shane still felt pangs of guilt for not being there in the end but he learned from his father’s mistakes. Shane’s marriage to Sherry was new, this was supposed to be the honeymoon phase of their relationship and instead of spending it in bliss they were forced to run for their lives.

Despite this or maybe because of these events Shane’s resolve became stronger and his bond to Sherry strengthened by their trials. He stroked her hair while she slept Shane vowed to take care of Sherry just as strongly as she took care of him. Shane was determined to keep her safe and enjoy their new home in Germany. To do so he would need to run a few tests first.

His mind was so lost in thought about what to do that he hadn’t realized they were within the warehouse until one of his men told him that they had arrived. Steve was already out of the vehicle and inside the room. Steve had quickly passed out on his bed holding a pillow close as he slipped into his dreams. Shane was happy seeing him sleeping as he laid Sherry down on the bed they would be sharing together. Making sure they were safe he left the room and looked to his men giving them orders, one was to head to the airfield and get the two jets ready and fully checked for the trips to Germany and Canada, the second was to acquire Shane some new clothes since the ones he wore were falling apart quite literally, and the third was to find him a guide in Canada that knew the way to the laboratory.

Once things were set and orders were given, he returned into the room and stripped out of his tattered clothing, thankfully none of his holsters were damaged nor the weapons. The kukris would require a good sanitary cleaning due to the T-virus infected blood staining them. Furthermore, he wanted a hot shower to clean off his blood mixed with that of the B.O.W.s he had killed, a smiled spread on his face as he looked at his skin where the claws, rotten teeth and nails tore at him and saw that there was nothing but new skin, pink scar tissue where his wounds once were. Shane just loved being able to regenerate.

Standing up wearing his boxer shorts, he moved his clothing into a biohazard bag and his weapons with their holsters onto a table while he looked for a way to wash up only to groan not seeing anything he could use. A thought crossed his mind of using one of the water containers outside but this could infect others, which he didn’t want to have. Grumbling Shane spotted a large container of disinfecting wipes. Hating the antiseptic smell of them, Shane had a sour look on his face as he used most of the wipes in the container to clean his body off, filling a second biohazard bag in the process.

Shane’s skin felt dried out and weird but he knew that he had to disinfect his body and his blades at least before going to sleep. Still, Shane knew to be safe they would all need to use that decontamination shower once it arrived. Slowly a yawn escaped his lips as he soon joined Sherry on the bed, kissing the side of her neck gently before groaning getting up as his phone chimed, it rested on the table with the rest of the items he had on himself.

Checking the screen, he saw Black Queen looking at him, removing the new sunglasses he blinked before stating, “How are things going?” before letting out a small yawn as Black Queen soon showed him live footage of the damage the explosion had done to the jungle and where his home once was, there he saw the helicopters circling the area like vultures while there were men in biohazard suits wandering about.

Shane whispered, “What the hell are they looking for…?” as Black Queen soon came back onto the screen. “Find out all that you can on what they are doing and what’s going on, they must have someone in the sky watching them and I trust that you’ll find them.” He said as Black Queen nodded before the screen went black as he looked at the time on the phone making him groan seeing it was getting late before sending a text to one of his biohazard crew to come to the airport with a decontamination van with a shower so he could get washed and sanitize his weapons. “Best not spread the infection.” He whispered before setting it down and stretched, slowly he looked over at Sherry and Steve as he smiled thinking of how well they’ve been for the past few months and soon Shane groaned not having his journal with him.

Nikolai shook his head as he looked at Afanasii through a glass window as she was lying down on an operating table, his lab techs working diligently and delicately on repairing her. He was impressed with how well she had performed and he knew how close she was to completing her mission from the live video data he had collected. The fact that Shane had survived such a beating before facing her again made him wonder how to catch the young man off guard considering the powers he gained from the virus Albert Wesker had given him, regardless…still he needed to focus on his girl. The shrapnel damage wasn’t as severe as he expected but the bullet damage that was concentrated on her chest was considerable as he watched the surgeon collect round after round from her body.

Nikolai was glad the old girl didn't mutate, that would be the last thing he would need her to do now with all things considering. The tyrant class BOW always became more and more difficult to control as they mutated from damage. He had seen that first hand in Raccoon City.

The combat data that he acquired was perfect, Shane had grown from the last time he saw the boy, weak and helpless, struggling in vain on that table. A grim smile etched Nikolai’s face remembering that night clearly, more clearly than Shane could ever remember. It was hard to imagine that was how Albert Wesker once looked while working for Umbrella… Nikolai could only chuckle in silence seeing such fear and panic in Shane’s eyes before they put him under light anesthesia. The boy had to be partially awake for the process and knowing that Shane probably heard everything being done to him but couldn’t stop it made Nikolai chuckle.

Nikolai was so lost in thought he didn’t realize Gennedy was standing next to him until he spoke, “Comrade, they’ll be finished within the hour.” which drew the older Russian’s attention to him as he snapped out of his daydreaming, if he had been startled Nikolai didn’t let it show. Gennedy paused a moment before continuing, “The abandoned Umbrella hospital facility has been found. I highly recommend insertion from the air. The area is overgrown and extremely remote, typical of an Umbrella facility but the weather patterns in the area will make it somewhat difficult but not impossible.”

Nikolai nodded as Gennedy continued his report, “The area’s population abandoned the area once the local lumber mill went out of business. We’ve found that there is still a logging trail less than a mile from the road that once led to the hospital which can be used as a secondary escape route if the need arises to leave by ground.”

Nikolai crossed his arms across his chest as Gennedy continued, “As you deduced, there is still power being supplied to the abandoned facilities lower levels from a hydroelectric plant several miles away. Our initial scans show that there are no humans in the area so the operation will be completely unnoticed.”

Gennedy fixed his gaze on to the sedated Afanasii. “The storm front moving into the area will be the perfect cover for the operation and it will mask our presence from the boy when he arrives. With that much snow and ambient noise from the surrounding forest baffling his sense he won’t know we are there until it’s too late.” With his report finished Gennedy crossing his arms behind his back as he watched the Tyrant resting below and waited for his commander’s response to his report.

Nikolai took a deep intake of breath and said, “Good, good, continue to monitor the boy’s movements for now. The operation will proceed as planned.” Nikolai unfolded his arms calmly and fixed his jacket as he continued, “ Canada … how long has it been since I was last there?” He wondered to himself before tapping his boot against the tiled floor softly. Nikolai went over his objectives again in his head knowing this would be a lot easier thanks to his girl.

If the facility was on lock-down like the others he had been too there was a possibility the test subjects inside were still active and possibly loose in the lower levels. Umbrella and Spencer, in particular, didn’t exactly care about outbreaks after he became a fugitive so the labs that were “off the books” tended to be in disarray after his downfall. Still, Nikolai wouldn’t need to worry about B.O.W.s ever getting close to him with his own outmatching anything the labs could have. None of the tyrant facilities remained after the Sheena Island incident so he wouldn’t have to worry about being outmatched. Still even without her Nikolai knew he had the skills to survive whatever they came across. Another lesson Raccoon City taught him those many years ago.

A few hours later

Shane smiled having been washed and in a new fresh pair of clothing, he looked at himself in the mirror before flexing and smiled as his eyes soon looked to Sherry who was walking up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist as she rested her head on the right side of his chest making him smile softly at his wife. She looked so happy to be with him, but sometimes Shane found himself wondering if it was her own will or that of Albert Wesker’s programming, but the way Sherry looked at him, it had to be true. She cared for him greatly and would do anything to keep him safe and alive, and so he had to keep her safe, for their future.

He was not like his father; he could never replace the man, the great man, the king. Shane knew he was the king now and Sherry was his queen, but he had to do things to keep the world controlled, or at least, tame it as much as he could. But he wasn’t sure if he should carry out his father’s plans of using Uroboros and find the chosen ones, or find something else that was more tamed but he knew it could take years to do so but what was he going to do? A sigh left him as Sherry looked at him confused but hugged him more which made him smile at her before turning around to look at her as she looked up at him softly.

She smiled more as she held his hands and kissed them before rubbing her face against them as she spoke, “Shane, please don’t be worried, you’ll find out what to do. Just continue what he asked you to do.” She told before looking into his gold and crimson eyes as another sigh left him as he knelt down to her level.

“I’m not like him, Sherry, I know I have to do this to make his legacy strong and pure, but I know I must start out by taking control of the black market so that I can be sure I know where all of the stolen virus samples are, you remembered the last time the t-virus got loose.” He said brushing some hair from her face. “I’m still new with this, Dad’s men are helping me as is the documents he left me, I’m a young man adjusting to the world but I’m learning fast and I know that I must take control and keep us protected and I promise that I will Sherry. I will get all that we need, have all the samples that Umbrella had developed all over the world, that’s why I must go to Canada. There’s a hospital there that’s been abandoned but Dad was certain that there were some new virus samples up there and I have to get those before anyone else decides to try it.” He told as Sherry shook her head.

“But what if someone already took them and the trip wasn’t worth it?” She asked before frowning. “I’m worried it might be a trap Shane, that man, Nikolai, is still after you. What if he knows you’re going to Canada ?” She asked as Shane huffed making her gaze stronger. “I’m serious Shane, you may be like your father but I’m worried about that….that monster woman.”

“I’ll be alright sweetie, I’ve learned that she’s being controlled so maybe I can find a way to break the connection but if not, I’ll shoot her in the head when given the chance.” He said smiling softly before nodding. “Trust me, I’ll be alright. She’s after me but if I manage to get out of her line of vision, she won’t be after me.”

“Shane, she’s like that monster that was after me, it won’t stop hunting you.” She said frowning as she looked away as her eyes started to water; it was a nightmare that she remembered, her monster father coming after her. Shane frowned too and soon embraced her lovingly before kissing her head. “I don’t want to lose you, Shane, I’ll be lost if you died.” She told hugging him back as she cried against his vest. “I don’t want you to die, I need you. We all need you.”

Steve was chuckling as he was watched the two before speaking up, “Aww.” He teased as Shane looked at him instantly as Steve continued. “Yeah man, we need you, after all, boss man, without you, how do you expect to keep the business going? Don’t make me come along to make sure you’re ass ain’t handed to you.”

“Shut up Steve,” Shane said smiling kissing Sherry on the head before looking at her. “I have to get going, have to keep on schedule otherwise we can have mistakes to happen.” He said walking over to the bed and grabbed his sunglasses before looking at the two. “When you both reach Dunkelwald in Germany, get our facility up and running again, make sure you have the Cleaners go in first to sweep out any infected or B.O.W.s in case some have survived within. Once so, have it purified so to destroy the infection within. Once I've returned, we continue with the experiments with Uroboros.” He said looking at the two seriously as he checked his watch. “We have to get moving, we’ll be late.” He ordered before walking over to Sherry and kissed her again. “I love you.” He said as she smiled at him.

“I love you too Shane, please be careful.” She told kissing him again before letting him go watching him vanish outside of the room as she sighed and looked at Steve before smiling. “We better get going, we have a job to do and I expect you to not make any jokes about Shane while we’re there.”

“Hey, if I find a dead Hunter, I’m going to keep it and startle the shit out of him, it’s going to be so hysterical!” He said before the two left the building.

Private jet

Shane took a seat as he opened the laptop that was before him as he looked over the charts and lab results again as he felt the jet starting to move before he looked at the men in the jet with him, advisors. He had them picked to help him with things, course, he made sure that if they were to betray them he a few methods to deal with them: 1: Kill them slowly and their family, 2: Torture them for their contacts before capturing their contacts and using them for experiments, 3: All out bloodshed, 4: Using them all for experiments.

But sometimes Shane felt it was a bit strict but he had to consider his family’s business, he was the heir to all that once belonged to Umbrella and he wondered if it also included TriCell, but from what he learned about Albert Wesker, he sold himself. “Was that how he made money fast?” Shane wondered before looking at the reports now as he felt the jet taking off as he sighed before looking outside as the lands of Africa was starting to vanish and the ocean soon came into view as well as thick white clouds as he soon looked at the computer screen but his eyes were looking at the advisors who were tending to their own laptops doing business and making more deals, course Shane tapped a few keys as he started monitoring their actions and smiled faintly seeing them doing their work, he had to chuckle which drew their attention as he thought, “Dare mess with a Wesker, you’ll meet your end.” before he went back to work reading the reports of the agents.

Things were going smoothly according to the reports, the transportation of Uroboros to Germany went smoothly and without trouble, and the samples going into cold storage in Alaska arrived also without incident and this relieved Shane greatly as he started typing up the next few orders.

Recon, testing, gathering subjects, the usual but sometimes Shane felt he was missing something considering Wesker did this smoothly, course he had Jill to ensure things worked and Excella too since she worked for TriCell. Shane swallowed slightly thinking of Excella now, she had plans too but he missed how she got him into some ‘fashion sense’ and took his virginity too, God he missed her sometimes, she was the closest woman he got close to enough he wanted to call her ‘Mom’.

Leaning back against his seat, Shane looked out the window and thought, “Dad did all of this by himself, unlimited funds, loyal men, labs spread all over the world, he was indeed King, but I’m not king since he’s gone…but I still miss him..” He saw the sky starting to darken and snow starting to fall making him close his eyes as he continued thinking, “Dad, watch over me and guide me, your training for me was cut short because of that bastard and the BSAA. Please help me through all of this...”

Slowly he took his sunglasses off and looked at them and looked at his reflection before looking out at the dark clouds, he was slowly adjusting to not having to wear them but he was still a bit paranoid of losing his vision even though he was fully healed, inside out and outside in. Slowly he looked over at the others with his gold and crimson eyes, he studied them over carefully before looking back at the laptop, he was getting worried about Sherry and Steve now, thus he slipped his sunglasses on again over his eyes, he grabbed his cell phone before getting up from his seat and moved to a more private spot in the small jet lounge as he spoke, “Black Queen.” as she instantly appeared on the screen as he continued, “Status report on Sherry and Steve.”

She acknowledged him with live satellite feed of them still in flight as she spoke, “They will be arriving at their destination in approximately 2.5 hours, once landed, armed escort will proceed to the town Dunkelwald, where they will be taken to your new home that your father had set up in case of an emergency.” She told on her cool voice as Shane nodded while she added, “Once you have landed, you’ll be escorted to the small town of Ashfield, there you will meet your guide. You should arrive at the abandoned hospital in roughly two hours; there your guide will wait for you outside of the gates.” She told as Shane nodded and she continued, “Your equipment is in the back compartment of the jet, with the coldness in the location of the hospital and with weather reports, you will have to dress warmly since it is snowing, a blizzard will be coming in once you reach it, I highly advise that you take shelter inside immediately. Your guide will give you supplies for the night.” She told.

“Will he stay there to escort me back?” He asked as she nodded to him. “Good, I don’t want to get lost out there in the cold.” He told before looking around the small room he was in. “That is all, for now, Black Queen, contact me with updates on Sherry and Steve and also reports from the men in the field.” He ordered before putting the phone back onto his belt as he looked for something to eat, he was content finding chicken noodle soup and crackers, plus he grabbed some grape juice before sitting down in the small room to eat his meal. “Best not get the papers messy.” He chuckled savoring another bite of the soup remembering the one night he got it before while later that night he and Excella had made out in the bathroom. He smiled thinking about before swallowing as he continued his meal as a speaker announced “Landing in 15 minutes.” As he hurried to eat, this jet was faster than he thought, course it was something his father had made in order to get to places faster.

Finishing up his hearty meal, Shane returned to his seat and buckled up before looking at the men with him, he hoped they continued with their objectives before he fixed his gaze on Wesker’s market statistics on the laptop and smiled seeing their funding is still going up and up, he just hoped there wouldn’t be another serious viral outbreak again but then again, it wouldn’t be blamed on him, but terrorists or even his father, shaking his head Shane looked outside as he saw the airport and relaxed for the landing, if something happened, he should be able to survive if he had to jump, he had to consider his father survived such a fall before and that was when Jill Valentine tackled him out of a window down off a cliff.

He was jolted out of memories feeling the jet touching down and he smiled inside knowing he was now closer to returning to Sherry and Steve, once they were stopped and escorted to the private hanger, Shane stood up and looked out the window seeing his gear being taken out and loaded into the SUV, he waited till the advisors were off before heading to the steps and stood up looking down at the group of men waiting for them, he saw fear, gladness, respect, honor, for the new king, even though he didn’t even know them but knew they were businessmen and there were guards as well. Apparently, there was going to be a brief meeting on the trip to Ashfield.

Once down on the ground he was greeted with handshakes and introductions from all over the world, the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, Iraq, and North Korea, the rest of the world was going to meet him eventually. He couldn’t believe how popular Albert Wesker was let alone have all these men know about Shane and knew he was the new king, that he was the god. He felt a bit honored and a bit unsure of himself about the business but he was thankful that Black Queen was going to be helping him through this.

The meeting started a moment after he got into the SUV, thankfully Black Queen was there waiting for them all on the screen as Shane sat in the middle of the group as she nodded to all of them before bringing up the latest statistics as Shane listened to the men talking about what they would be needing and the new things they were willing to have him use to improve, but Shane wasn’t used to this and he looked at the screen as Black Queen’s camera read his body movements, his facial movements, and his eyes too and knew she had to help him. “We will accept a few samples; shipments can be handled easily and without issues.” She spoke as Shane nodded.

“We will test the new samples, if we get something, we will gladly sell them back to you,” Shane added as he hoped he said it correctly as the men were soon speaking to each other as Shane continued. “If you have issues with it, I can do business elsewhere and guarantee that you all will not be doing business with me again and I will have you all killed so I have no leaks.” He said coolly as the men looked at him before they all nodded to him as the business continued on now with the selling of B.O.W.s, Shane felt sick inside with this.

“B.O.W.s will cost you a bit more.” He told seriously. “A businessman of my standards needs to keep the business open.” And with that he listened to the men talking and looking at him but he didn’t care, he had to keep the business open, the selling standards his father had set up was easy to follow, buying a Tyrant class B.O.W. cost a lot more than everything else since it took a while to make one but with time and money, it would be done in a snap, with some minor side effects to none whatsoever.

The meeting lasted all the way to Ashfield and Shane shook their hands and smiled at the success of the business deals, money payments to the bank accounts in Sweden and others worldwide would be once again filled with more money, all of which Shane had inherited from Albert Wesker.

“It was a pleasure doing business,” Shane said to them before returning to the SUV and sat down inside rubbing his arms, outside it was snowing steadily and he wasn’t properly wearing clothing for this, sure his combat attire was good for it but he still got cold.

“Let’s move to the hotel that we have occupied so I can get ready for my trip.” He ordered looking back outside and smiled, he missed seeing snow and he sighed in content watching it falling all around them, upon arriving at their destination, Shane moved inside and was escorted to the room where his equipment and clothing were waiting for him. Getting changed into a dark navy blue Navy pea coat and back into his black jeans, he smiled getting his boots on and fixed the blue scarf around his neck, as cold as it was outside, he would need the extra garment so not to freeze again the blistering cold.

Shane thought of wearing a hat but he was certain that he would be fine once he went inside the hospital, grabbing his black winter gloves he fixed his sunglasses again even though he knew he wouldn't need them at this time of the day and with the winter clouds blocking out the sun, he wouldn’t need to worry about going blind, but for now, he wasn’t going to scare his guide.

Grabbing his guns, he slipped them into their holsters hidden under the coat before he looked at the kukris, he would have to leave them behind… “I don’t have to, the guide can carry them.” He said to himself and smiled. “Never know, might need them to cut branches to start a fire.” He told himself as he collected the twin blades and left the room as he handed them to one of his men.

“I want you to put them in the gear my guide will be carrying, with all things considered, if we get snowed out there, I best have them.” He told as the man nodded and left as Shane fixed his scarf once again, rotating his shoulders Shane went back downstairs and raised a brow. There was a dark-skinned man in a winter attire and fur hat that Shane had seen in a movie once with two old fishermen and it seemed to be out of place on the man who was fixing his pants and shirt before looking over at Shane with such green eyes that they seemed like they were taken from a computer image, plus the man appeared to have been needing a shave.

The man was looking Shane over as well and chuckled before walking over and held out his hand to him giving a half smile, “I’m Alex Key, the Key to finding things in the woods.” He chuckled with a light French accent that Shane found interesting as he shook Alex’s hand firmly. “You’re no fool, but I can tell you that you’re anxious for the trip, your boys already have gone through the gear five times already, what are they expecting, a Christmas card?” He asked chuckling as Shane smiled and chuckled too, this man was lively and ready to joke, if he had met Albert Wesker, he would have been silenced quickly.

“Nice to meet you, Alex, the men are doing a routine procedure to ensure my safety and that we are prepared to head to the hospital,” Shane told as he motioned to walk outside and Alex followed rubbing his chin. “Have you been to the old hospital lost in the woods?” Shane continued as Alex nodded.

“I’ve been there once, but you can’t get in unless you’re an animal, the old wall and fencing blocks a lot of trespassers from entering it, plus I’ve heard stories about the place, when I found it on my hike, I high tailed it out of there after checking the walls, place gives me the creeps and not the good kind,” Alex told shaking his head. “Sometimes I wonder if the place is haunted, some kids go up there and say they see something in the windows or saw a quick image in the woods, but we told kids to stop going up there since someone spotted large cats up in that area and they’re scary as hell up close and personal!” He exclaimed as Shane looked at him and a Raccoon City memory flashed in his mind of the infected zoo animals and the lioness that nearly killed him, Alex was looking at him confused. “You alright man? You kinda went pale there.”

Shane took a breath and nodded simply to Alex before looking at him as he said, “Did anyone draw it out or take pictures of these large cats?” He asked before fixing his blue scarf as Alex adjusted his hat and shrugged slightly as Shane studied him carefully. “I take that’s a no?”

“Those that saw them don’t like talking about it… some of the older folks call those Grimalkin, grey cats. What I was told, they’re nasty creatures…” Alex told rubbing his hands together before fixing his fur hat. “Brr… glad I brought warmers...” He chuckled before heading over to his bag once Shane’s men were out of the way before he tossed something to Shane that looked like a regular washcloth but upon further inspection, he found it was sewn shut and had something inside. “Give it a squeeze, it’ll keep warm to hot, up to ten hours, we should be back before then but it’ll keep you warm. This cold can be deadly if you don’t get prepared, you should wear a hat too.” Alex told as Shane slipped the cloth bag into his coat after squeezing it.

Sealing up his coat he looked at Alex getting the hiking pack onto his back before shaking his head, “I’ll be alright, we shouldn’t be too long, and once we’re there we will be taking shelter inside and can get warmed up. All we’ll be doing is taking shelter before I go see what I can find.” He spoke as Alex nodded.

“Lead the way.” He said to the man as they started walking as the snow continued to fall around them and Shane found himself shivering slightly from the cold, how long has it been since he last seen it snow? Was it nine years? “God, I really am behind...” He whispered watching the snow as they entered the woods following a small hiking trail along a stream that was half frozen, this left Shane wandering his thoughts as he followed Alex, a small green glow stick on the backpack kept Shane alerted to where the man was.

His thoughts were of Albert Wesker’s plans if he had succeeded, would the world have been cold like the world that was around him? Or would it be lively and the people renewed? Shane found himself wondering if he should unleash Uroboros onto the world to get it over with or let the world continue to spiral out of control. He was slowly catching up with things but he learned how crueler the world had become in just nine years, humans were getting out of control, the evil in the world keeps growing while the good is dwindling and becoming rarer to even see or hear about, on the news there is rarely any good news to be seen, chaos is what the world was falling into.

Taking a chilly breath he climbed over a fallen tree and moved around a bush as he continued thinking. If he unleashed Uroboros, he would have to deal with it before gathering up all the survivors and declare that the world has been reborn and that he would guide them, and Shane shook his head at Wesker’s idea of being a god, any that opposed him would be punished, that was for certain.

Alex paused and Shane did too as he looked around carefully with his eyes as he listened carefully, there were no dangers, his senses didn’t find anything and so he looked at Alex, the poor man was tense having to lead him to the hospital. He felt sorry having to drag him into this but finding the place was harder than one would think, the old road to it was gone, aerial entrance was almost impossible with any storm about to come in, but what annoyed Shane the most was that he was having a hard time keeping his senses straight, the falling snow and the sounds of the forest got him on edge, he would have to rely on his line of vision.

The falling snow felt so enchanting to him, it actually made him feel at peace as they started moving again as Alex pointed at a few manmade objects that were overtaken by nature, a pile of bricks, a water pipe, hell, they even found a car that was being consumed by a tree. Shane smiled at how amazing nature was at taking back what was hers.

Shane lost track of time since the snow was amazing for him and Alex kept silent, a few times they got spooked when a deer would suddenly run or would run past them but they haven’t encountered anything dangerous and Shane sighed as Alex looked back handing him some fresh jerky, the spicy meat strips were delicious as Shane smiled and thanked him while munching on the meat as he soon noticed that their trail was actually an old road that soon forked left and right, Alex told him that this was the old roads leading to it, nodding Shane continued to follow him on the left path which revealed a long destroyed bridge and metal pipe, Alex jumped across the four-foot stream and almost slipped in the snow but caught himself.

“I’m good.” He said finally breaking the long silence as he looked at Shane while holding out his hand to help Shane across if he was to slip, not wanting to be rude to the nice gesture, Shane gripped Alex’s wrist and jumped across with ease. “Alright.” Alex said nodding as he continued, “We’re getting close…brr…just ten more minutes if we don’t get attacked by the Grimalkin, I certainly don’t want to fool around...” He said grabbing a pistol out from his pants that Shane hadn’t noticed when they first met.

“Best to be ready you know,” Alex told him as Shane nodded in agreement as they continued following the road, that’s when Alex found something strange as they were drawing closer. “Hold up...” He said softly shining his flashlight on the snow seeing blood as Shane walked over to see it. “Hmm, something must have gotten attack here…” Alex whispered as Shane looked around carefully as he listened.

“Let’s keep moving,” Shane ordered nudging Alex along before quickening their pace, at long last Shane saw the stone wall covered in moss and snow, he looked at how tall it was before looking at where it leads, and right now they were at a corner of the compound. “Where can we get in at?” He asked as Alex was taking his pack off.

“We can’t get in that easy, the front gate is somewhere and I have no idea where, hell, I don’t even know which corner of this place is, possibly front. I’ll give you a boost.” He said moving next to the wall before they both paused hearing something, it was an annoying sound of loud gurgled squeaks and hisses. “Shit, come on!” Alex snapped at Shane as he held his hands together to give Shane a boost up, Shane didn’t want that, he wanted to throw Alex up and over but hurried as he climbed and Alex pushing up. “Get over!” Alex grunted as Shane climbed up onto the top and reached down to help Alex up but was giving the bag first.

“Hurry Alex,” Shane said spying movement coming from the far right drawing his attention from something horrifying. There were about six large rats bearing down on Alex. Shane saw their red eyes shimmering in Alex’s flashlight, revealing more of their bodies! Long sharp claws on their feet, oversized teeth in their snapping mouths, bald patches of infected skin, but there was something else that made Alex react with horror, the rat’s spines and tail were out of the skin of the foul creatures and were solid looking.

“Hurry Alex,” Shane said spying movement coming from the far right drawing his attention from something horrifying. There were about six large rats bearing down on Alex. Long sharp claws on their feet, oversized teeth in their snapping mouths, bald patches of infected skin, but there was something else that made Alex react with horror; the spines and tail of these foul creatures were exposed, protruding out from the torso!

“Alex, give me your hand!” Shane snapped reaching down but the guide opened fire before running as Shane watched as the rats hurried after Alex. “Shit!” Shane snapped but heard Alex shouting for him to get inside. Cursing at that, Shane jumped down into the compound as he looked around, he grabbed the bag and hurried toward the large building in the distance of the large courtyard.
Shane slowed his run as he tossed the bag next to the building before turning around looking for Alex or at least to hear him, but the falling snow and the sounds around him, he couldn’t keep his senses even, he didn’t sense Afanasii lunging down at him from the roof of the hospital till he felt a strong grip on his left shoulder that turned him so fast that he was greeted with a strong punch across his face while she landed right on top him shattering the old stone right underneath Shane’s body. She looked down at him as his nose started bleeding, a bruise was appearing on his face, his sunglasses were lost in the snow. He looked up and saw Nikolai on the roof crouching down with a sniper rifle in hand, he was ambushed and was alone. He grunted feeling her jerking him off the ground and wrapping her left arm around his neck causing his blood to fall onto the black leather suit she wore and Shane growled as she winched his right arm out and to the side holding him tightly causing him to grip her arm with his free hand as he tried to get her to let go before feeling a shot of sharp pain erupting in his right arm along with a loud bang, Nikolai shot him and he cried out closing his eyes tightly. “Damn it!” Shane snapped struggling, hearing Nikolai speaking to Afanasii.
“Hold that bastard still,” Nikolai spoke watching Shane struggling to get free as his old girl kept a firm on him as he lined up the next shot carefully as he saw Shane jerking forward hard just enough to have the tyrant to slip on the snow as he headbutted backward cracking his skull against her own, this was enough leverage the young man needed to break free as he turned sharply landing a strong hit on her face.
“Bitch!” Shane snapped at her, as he was about to attack her again a sharp pain shot through his body and he collapsed to the ground almost instantly, a new bullet wound right through his back that erupted out of his chest, right through his heart. Nikolai smiled seeing him on the ground perfectly still before standing up shouldering the sniper rifle.

“Collect him.” He ordered to Afanasii as he watched her kneeling down collecting the young man into her arms before heading to the front doors, Nikolai smiled slightly as he turned around walking toward the stairs leading him back inside, handing the rifle over to one of his men he brushed the snow off himself and tapped his boots against the wall freeing them of caked on snow as he proceeded down the barren hallway finding Afanasii laying Shane down on a gurney as two of Nikolai’s men were stripping him of his weapons and coat as leather straps were being tightened over the man’s wrists, ankles, and torso.

“Take him to the operation room; we must collect our samples and data quickly.” He ordered calmly as he looked at Shane. “At least you haven’t forgotten your old friend Nikolai.” He told watching them wheeling Shane away.
