Riva Di Paola, voice actress for Rebecca Chambers, in Resident Evil Zero, will be in residence here, for one night only. Those residents wishing to submit their questions for THE voice of Rebecca, who portrayed her with sublime elegance, and considerable emotional presence, should post them below ~

Why was she a replacement for Hope Levy, and why was she then replaced by Stephanie Sheh in Umbrella Chronicles? Hope Levy and Riva Di Paola are both excellent fits for the character, but Riva has the edge. Stephanie Sheh and Lynn Harris from the original Resident Evil just feel too high pitched and forced.

Rebecca came across as too fragile for S.T.A.R.S. in the original and remake of Resident Evil. That is a common criticism I have seen. Did she play her role with the intention of adding more steel to the character?

THANKS to SheyGrell for posting a question in The Horror Is Alive forum ~

QUOTE SheyGrell : "For Riva Di Paola: Did she know about the Resident Evil universe before she was cast as Rebecca? If so, was she mindful towards the quality of voice acting in some of the previous games & how much of an improvement she could bring to the table? (Which she did, by the way)"

Was there an overall plan to do the voice work? What was the main theme of the voice work going to be? :D

How was her overall experience? And would she be willing to do it again?

Did the role explicitly require her to combine a sense of innocence and maturity in one voice?

THANKS Survivalist, this is the main theme I very much want to discuss. As with NEMESIS I too found her surprisingly innocent & delicate to be a member of an elite team, specialist anti-terrorist & serious crime force. She should be even more naive & inexperianced during the events of the Training Facility, compared to her later battle through the Spencer Mansion, and I will be exploring whether this was an observation held by Riva Di Paola, and how she approached her charcater with that in mind.

I hope I'm not too late to the party here, but I was busy. Anywho, what was her reaction to being asked to do the voice acting for Rebecca? Was she excited, or...?

Sorry I´m late and absent guys, I´m really busy lately and I just suffered a heavy personal blow, as someone I really appreciated passed away.

Here is my question:

How hard can be to voice such a complicated character? she is a medic, she is a new member, she has to adapt to the situation...I´m sure adapting her voice to those multiple situations wasn´t easy.

How did she feel about voicing a character modeled after a famous star? (Ayumi Hamasaki, going off wiki, they call her the "Empress of J-Pop") Was she nervous? Did she even know at the time?

Great to hear from you Yoke, being such an established long serving member of the community you are very welcome here. Unfortunately your question has been submitted just too late, as I have already conducted the interview with Riva, who was the consumate professional, and extremely generous with her time & attention to detail. There is a wonderful reason for the delay in publishing the interview live here at CHE, involving the simultaneous release of Rebecca Chambers concept art that has never before been publicly released, and a very special exclusive reading of a certain Rebecca Chambers file... just keep an eye on our RESIDENT EVIL AUDIO section over the next week.

Residents are invited to submit their feedback, not just for Riva Di Paola's fascinating & lively interview, but also for her wonderful, generous reading, in character as Rebecca, of the official canon series entry, 'Rebecca's Diary' (published in Resident Evil Zero Official Strategy Guide) ~

Thank you George Trevor for putting to Riva my question about Rebecca's fragility. How interesting to find out Riva's first job would tackle just a subject!! The audio of Rebecca's Diary was a fantastic surprise - I thought there was just going to be an interview. I remember reading that diary in the RE0 guide back in the day so I did not expect to hear it recorded by the very lady herself in character all these years later! Thank you CHE.

George Trevor, I had to join the forum just to say thank you for doing this interview. It was a such a great listen and Riva shared so many interesting little tidbits. I'm so glad they didn't replace her because she was sick in the beginning or because one of the directors I think it was, thought her voice was too sweet. We all would have missed out on such great VA work.

Then the Diary reading. I never got to read it so that was a great bonus for me. Her reading the diary just reminded me why I find her to be Rebecca's best VA.

I also realized that her natural voice would be perfect for an older Rebecca.

Rebecca's Diary read just how it should be - oh my goodness that was a brilliant surprise and I cant thank Riva and the Crimson Head Elder team for putting this all together. I keep saying RE Zero is not featured like it should be on RE sites - you guys did it justice - thank you again.

SkinniMini1 comments like yours above are exactly why the Crimson Head Elder team put all our efforts into these features, and they make all the hard work worthwhile. I hope you do not mind but I took it upon myself to forward your kind comments on directly to Riva, as I know she would be delighted to read them, particularily what you wrote about her reading of Rebecca's Diary; she really did not have to agree to that special addition, having already devoted so much time & attention to our interview.

Thank you for joining CHE, and I very much look forward to seeing you in our global community Resident Evil Forum,

Oh that's not a problem at all. I'm just shocked (and happy) that you considered my comments worth forwarding to her. I listened to all three of your interviews. They really are appreciated bc we don't get to hear from the VA's too often esp one's that are no longer part of the series. I can't wait to hear the next one. Not to go off topic for too long, but do you have an idea on who you'll be interviewing next? Also thanks for the warm welcome :-)

Okay I'll definitely have to visit that section bc I have a certain VA in mind. I also read in this thread that some new never seen before artwork is coming. When is that happening exactly bc that sounds very exciting. Also is Rebecca's Diary recognized as canon like say Wesker's Report for instance?
